Yura Yura Teikoku – Hollow Me

Considering the "slightly high" price of this vinyl ...a reissue would be ..... nice ...
Too bad, the album is excellent.

Yura Yura Teikoku’s Swan Song. A flawed yet interesting album that brought one of Japan’s most acclaimed indie rock groups to a close. By this point, The band has reached their peak in popularity (even having the opportunity to perform some shows in america) but as it usually happens to bands becoming more well known, their original identity as a grimy garage band slowly diminished in the wind. Hollow Me is still a psychedelic rock album at its core but its strays a bit towards the breezy sophistication of city pop in some parts, foreshadowing the direction their frontman, Shintaro Sakamoto, would take when he embarks on his solo career. This was my first introduction to the band and I think its a great entry point. If you like the psychedelic aspects, go backwards into their discography. If you enjoyed the songs “Listless Dream” and “Lonely Satellite” then proceed towards Shintaro Sakamoto’s solo albums.
