Joe Jackson ‎– I'm The Man

A wonderful reissue and the balance between the upfront and centered vocals and the tight rhythm section is the best I've heard for this album and the bottom end is very solid. Great packaging and gatefold cover as well! A must buy... unfortunately it's already seemingly out of print via Intervention Records.

Quite happy with my copy despite being nervous about the off-center issue noted below. Fortunately, that was not the case for me. This is the best I've ever heard this album on vinyl. Earlier pressings I've had were plagued with sibilant vocals and of course the wear and tear of being historically a bargain bin affair. I've never had a release from Intervention and I have to wonder why I'm just learning of this label now. They do top notch work. The packaging is great, and of course the disc being pressed at RTI and having been cut by Kevin Gray certainly doesn't hurt either. Excellent all around!

I still love this album after 41 years. Typical of the new wave genre; it ages so well over the years. A great progression from Look Sharp. Lots of subtle changes in the songs. Hints of new wave, pop, rock, reggae. Joe Jackson has always been a very strong lyricist. It's Different For Girls is a definite candidate for a place in the Top 10 Songs of 1979. If you want an album to make you feel good buy this.

My copy appears to have been printed with the back oriented to the left (from the front the album enters as typical to the right side yet from the back view the album enters at top).

Fantastic album. So full of great songs. Bleeding edge of new wave. Joe should have a bigger place in rock history than he does.

Why is there still no UK first press listed? All the links in the repress listings run in circles/link to themselves. A first press is mentioned in the notes but no sign of it here.

Is it just my copy or does this print sound really crappy?

My copy has the sticker which reads "A&MSP 3221" and everything, record and cover, all say 1979? The inner lyric sleeve still says SP 4794. Did they just recall the unsold records in '82 and re-sticker/stamp them?

Not only is the cover corrected with a sticker, but the runout shows the original SP 04794A etching scratched out with the SP3221 A stamped below. Is this a reissue or a repress?
