Wings (2) – Wings At The Speed Of Sound

I love this record, it takes me back to my childhood. I just don’t think this pressing opens up. Perhaps a little compressed. Sounds good, just not a wow factor that I expected from, “silly Love Songs.”

Honestly my favourite piece of vinyl so far, at least regarding sound quality. It's the only one of my collection rated with 5 stars.

Didn't compare it to other issues of the same album, but this one sounds just perfect to me. Can't believe the pricing system on 2nd hand vinyls. You can buy this OG for 10 - 20€, when other OG's, maybe more famous but not necesarily better and certainly not so well produced (like for instance Jimi Hendrix - Axis Bold as Love) can go up to 200€ and more.

I've always had a soft spot for this album, knowing full well it's fluff. Often irresistible fluff. Beyond the two hits that lead off each side, "Beware My Love" is an actual fleshed out rocker, and "San Ferry Anne" is one of my favorite Macca album tracks. Denny Laine's "Time To Hide" is also a standout. On the other hand, album closer "Warm And Beautiful" might be the most flaccid song McCartney ever released. I'm playing a 1976 Winchester pressing, it's an improvement on VENUS AND MARS, but still a bit murky in the mid-section. My copy plays with occasional light surface noise, and a skip on "Silly Love Songs".

Has 2 of my favorite songs of all time since I was a young child. The rest are ok but a definitely not of the same caliber. I love having it in my collection as a reminder of my childhood. My pressing sounds great. Recommended

My copy is substantially better than the original that I have. The original has a bit more sparkle but this is an eq choice of the original master. On my system this re-issue sounds amazing; overall clarity of vocals, soundstage and mid bass is superior.
Loss of one star for pressing quality. Noisy pressing out of the package but cleaned up well with my VPI 16.5

Although 5U is the earliest matrix for stock copies, single sided test pressings exist with 3U matrix numbers. Two were sold by Omega Auctions in 2021. A snip at £900 for the pair.

I have an early eighties copy and the inner has rounded corners rather than the straight cut inners of my first pressing.

I have promo Lp. On side2 'NOT FOR SALE' sticker. Matrix / Runout are YEX 953-5U, YEX 954-5U.

I have a Portugal pressed Wings at the Speed of Sound that has APPLE 8E O6497581 on the spine of the album cover. As far as I know, this is the only LP pressing that has an Apple marking for this album title. I'm not sure if this was the norm for the 1976 release or if only early pressings contained the Apple marking.

Superb all analogue sound, simply warm and beautiful! Strong bass, airy presentation with lots of details and live middle frequencies which can be found only on tape sourced records.
