Scritti Politti – Cupid & Psyche 85

Don’t normally review vinyl but had to with this. It’s now my go to record to show off my system. Sounds wonderful. Not one pop or crackle it’s sheer 80s perfection.

Well-crafted well-written & well-produced 80's synth-pop/pseudo-funk w/ breathy vocals, massive synth-keys, syndrums, fretless bass & clean production result in melodic bliss full of melodramatic effects textures & shimmering soundscapes.
Dazzling & immensely lovable.

just got this pressing at a store in NYC. it sounds amazing - no crackles, every instrument hefty and the soundstage is massive and spacious.

This includes the original / initial mix of "Perfect Way" that appeared on (most) 1985 vinyl versions of the album. The version on the CD pressings (and Japanese vinyl) from that time included a sightly longer, differently mixed version. Clearly, the initial masters for the vinyl version were used for this reissue (which is beautifully presented by the way).

The version of "Perfect Way" is different from the one included on the 2022 CD reissue of the album.

The version of "Perfect Way" is different from the one included on the 2021 vinyl reissue of the album. Besides, they forgot to include the credits and any other comment about "Flesh & blood" and the remaining bonus tracks.

I’ve got two embossed OG copies, one has terrible noise throughout and the other is spotless. Both look mint!
Phenomenal album and one I’ve had since release. Back in the 80s this was my favourite album by far, sounding like nothing else at the time it’s stood the test very well and sounds as crafted, clever and uplifting as it did all those years ago. Salute Scritti!

Definitive version (at last) has the excellent b-side 'dub' versions and gold lettering on the cover. Sounds great as well, but on the loud side.

There are a couple of songs I really like on this album (Absolute and Perfect Way), the rest are - ok. Breathy vocals get on my nerves after a while.
