It needs a cleaning at least but sound is amazing ! I advice to use a different inner sleeve to save it...

Does anyone know if the original sounds better than the 2015 reissue?

100%, my copy was covered in paper particles. Lucky I saw them before I played, as after cleaning it sounded absolutely perfect.

I was expecting the worst and nothing what I expected. This reissue sounds amazing and the pressing is nice and quiet. well done 4AD. perhaps this is a later pressing of the 2015 reissue plates.

An under appreciated gem from the early 90's. amazing song writing. This CD version is the definitive one to get IMHO, as the original LP pressing has been plagued with noise issues from what I've heard.

Time stretch the already slow tempo and prepare for your head to enter spaces you thought could never happen to you.

Great Reissue, sounds GREAT.
People say it's very noisy, mine is extremely quiet.

Opened sealed copy, hits of distortion and noise throughout. Also agree with other reviewers; the mixes sound off when compared to my memories of the CD. Unfortunate.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the inner sleeve contributed to the noisiness of these. When I took the record out it just felt grainy. The end of Down Colorful Hill sounded like shit, and I noticed a little flick of paper at the needle. I am going to clean this and see if that improves the sound...

All these RHP reissues on 4AD had similar noise problems.

Side 1:
24 has a lot of background noise and the vocal is ridiculously way way to loud compared to the other instruments.

Medicine Bottle sounds much better. But not as good as it does on Spotify. I know, right?

Japanese to English sounds better again, but suffers from the "schish" distortion issue on the vocal (diCTIOnary, englISH etc.).

Side 2:
Down Colorful Hill sounds good to me.

Lord Kill the Pain: The vocal sounds good. Cant really hear the drums so well. The guitars sound weird, as if two guitar parts from different songs as mashed together.

Michael: The "schish" voacal distortion is back.

Overall, it sounds almost as if each song was mastered by a different person/ audio student!

Take everything I say with a grain of salt as I'm not trained in sound or music. This is just what I am hearing.

I can verify the noise issues and I'm somehow happy it's not just me, I mean I tried to learn everything about the "s" noise on vinyl records but I don't really see any problems in my turntable set up. I always wanted this album on vinyl and it still sounds awesome, a few distortions here and there are not enough to kill the joy of listening to this masterpiece.

Very noisy pressing. So many reissues are like this nowadays, it's a shame.

Side 1 is very noisy.
Side 2 is unlistenable. So much distortion.

Horrible pressing.

Is it only me, or every copy has a pressing defect?
There is a lot of noise during the first ca 30 sec of '24', especially when Mark sings , and also some noise when he sings 'Japanese to English'.

I've bought a copy before reading these comments and got a bit scared, but when I played it it sounded pretty decent. the "s" thing is slightly noticeable at the beginning of 24, but overall it sounds really decent, which leads me to believe it might've been a particular batch that came off sounding bad?

I just bought the reissue and I have the same problem. Mark's vocals on the 1st track "24" are distorting a lot on his "s". Cymbals are distorted too. Comparing with the high quality mp3s I have from the download link in the reissue, the problem is obviously only on the vinyl version. Can anyone compare it with the original edition?
Glad it's not my cartridge though...

I noticed this on my copy which I just got yesterday. It has surface noise, and Mark's vocals are dull, the "s" sounds are cut off, adding treble in an attempt to boost the "s" sounds only adds to the poor sound quality, I thought it was my cartridge acting up.

Bit disappointed in this reissue. I might try to deep clean my copy and see if it still has this problem.

Is it correct that the CD has marked with "GAD 2014" and the cover with "CAD "2014" (as in the images uploaded)? Then here, in the notes of the page said "demo recordings made before 4AD" but my CD is not of demo versions. I don't understanding.

It has certainly to do with the fact that this is a reissue (GAD.CAD)
concerning the demo recordings, it's just that this RHP official first release comes from their demo recordings.
