Incredible pressing. Very clear sound and good mix. My copy doesn’t skip, but it is normal for the beginning of an album to sound crackly or skip. Also my copy has the edges sticking out for auto-coupling.- While I think the Wilson remix is the superior listening experience, offering a more immediate and powerful version of the album, this is obviously the one closer to the original artistic intent. It also has elements in the mix buried or outright missing in the remix. Despite some weird stereo balancing (the only time I've noticed it in the band's catalog), it still sounds incredibly impressive. This was an exceptionally well produced album.
- Edited 3 months agoThis is the only Wilson remix of the lot that I'd say is essential as it borders on revelatory. While others have been improvements (the 2023 Larks' and 2024 Red), none have been quite so transformative. While I object to the removal or burying of certain elements in the mix, which makes the original still recommended for fans of the album, this is simply a far more intense and better balanced version which I think suits the music better, despite not being as faithful in intent. The more frantic, oddball tracks like Happy Family and Indoor Games are in your face the way I think they always should have been. Cirkus is similar, with more intimate vocals and tamed treble that greater express the schizophrenic vibe of the track but without the harshness. The title-track suite loses a bit with the removal of certain keyboards for whatever reason, but the vocals are no longer bizarrely buried the way they once were (particularly Jon Anderson's).
This album's an all time favourite of mine and I think this is the best version of it, although I do wish another would be done that's a little more faithful and with some extras. This is the most accessible version of it too, as it's a little less busy than the original. Lastly, this album was produced exceptionally well. I highly recommend this. referencing Lizard (LP, Album, Stereo) ILPS 9141
Compared to my Lizard from 1977, this original pressing is just fantastic ! Clear and Punchy, detailed, balanced extremely well, groovy in the Medium... Superb !referencing Lizard (LP, Album, Philips Press) SD 8278
Excellent pressing with great sound definition. If your copy is skipping it's probably unique to your copy and/or your turntable.referencing Lizard (LP, Album, Stereo) ILPS 9141
Hey kind people! Can anybody help me find out which version I own? Seems like a UK pressing with the incorrect order of A2 and A3, white inner sleeve and runnout reading like: I-2 ILPS 9141 A2 EG and I-6 ILPS 9141 B2 EGreferencing Lizard (LP, Album, Repress) ILPS 9141
You can't go wrong with these uk presses,i compared japanese and the 2012 reissue and liked this one in every way. While the reissue is clean, detailed is a whole balanced mastering while the original has all the detail but with plenty of bite at the same time.referencing Lizard (LP, Album, Reissue, Gatefold) 88 025 ET
Nice pressing, very quiet, excellent midrange, great detail, well mastered!
