Ultravox – Vienna

I have the 1980 Japanese pressing. Should I buy this also? Is this better than the 1980?

Great sounding Japanese pressing. I had the American copy when it first came out. As far as the music goes a lot of it sounds dated now. I like Sleepwalk, All stood still and of course Vienna which I think is the best thing they've ever done. Also Western Promise which does sound dated but I like it anyway

turn down treble 1/4 in your system and you will experienced a much better listening.

Good Clarity, albeit Ultravox not being known for audiophile quality sound.

Nice to finally own the B side Waiting on vinyl apart from the Styrene 7” single. Great additions.

This 40th anniversary remaster sounds amazing. Steven Wilson nailed it, no surprise there. The clarity, dynamics, and mix are perfect. The soundstage is very wide, and the vocals and instruments are located with laser precision.

BUYER BEWARE: 1983 West German manufactured CDs are showing signs of edge & 'pinhole' delamination...not visible when the label surface is painted, but will be evident on the edges & the hub. This problem will eventually affect play.
My advice is to rip your copy of this release before the pinholes increase & become problematic during playback of the CD.

Although my copy is safely tucked away, unplayed (and will continue until my wife and/or children are divvying up my estate), I believe there are only a few of the tracks are the live versions. The rest are the actual album tracks. But the tracklistings are way off.

HMV didn't "recall" it. They initially stopped sales of it on their website several hours after the issue was reported to them. They then resumed sale of it a couple of days later, with a disclaimer in the listing. There was no corrected version. No "fine" copies. Every copy sold has the same recordings. So everyone that has an unopened, unplayed copy, is holding a "collectors item" which will only increase in value.

Again, I do not know this for definite. Only what I have heard through the Ultravox grapevine.

Received for free from a friend. Clean but muffled and flat. Virtually no high frequency air. Don't know but there ought to be better pressings of this great album. Nice to have though as the music brings back some good memories.

O have a japanese version (wws-81355) and on my opinion have a better sound.

For 6 quid(ish) you can pick up an original copy which knocks spots off this ‘remastered’ version which is dull and flat…don’t bother unless you like white vinyl.
