An icepick-in-the-forehead classic. One of the greatest albums by a British group in the last 50 years. Both epitomises and transcends its period.- Sounds awesome. Very well packaged. A group that was ahead of its time… music that manages to sound challenging & mesmerising at the same time.
- Disappointing release. While it's great to have Alien Blood, there is nothing in regards to production, lyrics, band recollections, etc. Kind of lazy when it comes to creating something deserving of this band and this LP.
- Is this box set individually numbered, or does the bottom everyone's box say "Art.#1812"? It's probably the same for everyone, but the font of the numbers "1812" is curiously different enough from the rest of the lettering on that panel that I thought I would ask.
- Considering this release although tempted by the box set.
Does the download code contain just single LP and 12" or the entire set with Live and EP in digital ?
Thanks. - I also had the problem with website address to download the digital version of the box set ("page not found").
The solution is quite simple: type all of the http address in lowercase letters and everything is fine.
Or go directly to: http://www.muteartistsdownloads.com/tpgybox
and enter your download code.
"Y" is one of the most important records of all times to me. I got it on release when I was 15 years old and it changed and influenced my views on many things, not just the way I perceived music. I found it most of the time quite painful and difficult to listen to, but also uplifting and exhilarating in its intensity. I felt that it couldn't be any other way.
Brilliant production by Dennis Bovell, too. Listen to his work on Ryuichi Sakamoto's "B-2 unit" and be amazed :-)
I haven't heard the new pressings or extra material of the box set yet, but for the most part the packaging is lovely.
A small nibble is that the strip on the right hand side of the covers with the handlettered name of the band has an apricot coloured tint to it, which isn't like the original LP and makes the cover look less intense, as it diminishes the contrast with the photograph.
The box set comes with a lot of extra material, so while it might be worth its elevated price, it seems weird to split with so much money on a set of records which a) should be available to everyone (if they can take the intensity of the music/material), not just a "select" few and b) it kind of contradicts the feelings/thoughts expressed on almost all of the material produced by The Pop Group.
Cheers, Victor Sol - Edited 2 years agoI bought Y when it came out originally, was a big Pop Group fan and had the poster on my wall (I was a bleak and pretentious teenager). I was in a band that tried to emulate the PG (very badly).
I bought this 3 CD set on a whim last week. For old times sake. Just listened to Alien Blood and really enjoyed it. Wouldn't describe it as an 'unreleased album' as such. More or less different mixes of Y, but it does have Kiss The Book that was hithertoo only on the 'We Are Time' comp.
I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected (don't always like going down memory lane). Great to hear Blackbeard at the controls. Pity the box set doesn't have a booklet. There's little or no information at all in the package.
The tracklisting on the back card of Alien Blood is wrong ... and therefore wrong on Discogs too.
Right order is:
1. Kiss the Book
2. Don't Call Me Pain
3. Thief of Fire
4. Words Disobey Me
5. Don't Sell Your Dreams
6. Boys from Brazil
7. Savage Sea
8. Snowgirl
9. Blood Money (Alien Blood?)
10. We Are Time - Love it, trimmings and all..just one thing, the download coupon.."page not found"...anyone got a clue..?
- Rating should be 5 ++++++, or, even beter, un-classifiable ! Definitely one of the best ever, whatever the sort of music.
Not everybody's cup of tea, but who cares !
One and only, whether Discogs like it or not ! referencing Y (LP, Album) P-10705F
I've got an extra English lyric sheet. If you wanna buy contact me.
