David Bowie – Space Oddity / The Man Who Sold The World

Three different studio recordings of Space Oddity have been released - the 1969 film version, the 1969 hit version and a 1979 re-recording.

This master is for the "Space Oddity / The Man Who Sold The World" single which contains the hit version of Space Oddity.

RCA issued this as a two track back-to-back single of the titles of the two albums Space Oddity and The Man Who Sold The World in the USA at the beginning of 1973. Some other countries also issued this coupling.

The hit version of Space Oddity was also an "A" side:

There are a few occasions where the hit version of Space Oddity was a "B" side. The 1979 re-recording was also a "B" side. Using the search function will assist locating all editions and recordings where Space Oddity is on a single.

On the RCA retail singles Space Oddity is usually presented with 10 seconds of the introduction removed (5:05 vs 5:15), some promo 45s are significantly edited, though almost always differently to the edits on some of the Philips and Mercury 45s.
