Slum Village – Fantastic, Vol. 2

I remember hearing a couple of tracks of this in my favourite Radio Show and thought something like "What the the fuss about this? Good, but --- masterpiece?" Maybe the DJ picked the wrong tracks for my taste. Now, 25 years later I bought a copy for a much higher price than the one I wanted to pay back then and listened to the whole set. What a move ... Still not blown away about every track, but c´mon: I was pretty wrong. "Hold Tight", "What It's All About", "Raise It Up", are you serious? This is super funky, hard to name a favourite track, as this is like made of one mould, even the skits made me smile, the features are excellent and fit like a glove. Damn right this is considered a tight release from a time where hip hop took a step in a new era and the millenium. Difficult for my ears, thinking back, but looking back from nowadays, I missed quite some gems and this definitely in one of them. Glad to finally have it in my vaults.

Anyone got a review of this? the mp3 sounds unbalanced compared to the original instrumentals on 2.10 in some way to me?... Maybe the drums are just way louder? Be interested to know if they are mastered the same way on vinyl

I have play tested two different copies of this particular pressing. one for me and another for a friend. At some point or another I have owned most of the other reissues that have come out since.

No skips, no loops. Bass is deep and full. Wax is cut hot and loud. 3 discs but very little dead wax on each side. Side E there's almost no dead wax as the grooves go almost up to the labels. Cheppa used the space available, yet at the same time no distortion in the vocals or sibilance. Due to the massive punch this one packs and the knocking beats, I can imagine that this will be one of those pressings that causes issues/skipping with an improper / basic setup.
No denying this sounds incredible. One of the best Hip-Hop cuts i’ve heard out there. I think there’s a tab bit of noise in the dead wax due to the plating/pressing. The pressing is good, but not exactly super quiet. However this is the kind of music where that becomes negligible. It's almost difficult at times to distinguish between sample "crackle" present in the original music and anything present in the noise floor during the tracks.

Highly recommended.

Very warm and dynamic press. Low end is bumpin and there are so many details in the music. This is better than any repress by Ne'Asstra. No sibilance issues too so crank this one loud!

It's already been said, but this is an outrageously good pressing. I'm not even sure how they achieved this - 3 LPs probably helps, but man, the low end on this release trumps any other record that I can think of, and the drums hit so damn hard. I can imagine Dilla being really pleased with the way that this sounds.
