Melvins – Honky

Mine is the same but is numbered out of a run of 24 and is signed. Was a tour edition. Otherwise identical.

Mine is just signed. Bought it at their concert in Paris in june 2023.

Outside of they all must be slaughtered having some annoying noise throughout it’s a pretty cool reissue love the cover too wish they went with purple vinyl instead of red though

These were available for £50 from the venue in Newcastle ,Friday just gone [ 2.6.23]. They are being sold for 4 times their worth already. Why not issue it properly where fans and band both benefit and the scammers and flippers don't.... Great gig. . 33 years since I first saw them

Given that I’m the author of this article, I thought that I would leave my thoughts on the record as well as the gig that I attended to get it.

The gig and night itself (Exchange, Bristol, England, 30th May 2023):
Doors of this wonderful community (would of called it venue but it’s so much more then that) opened at 7PM for a sold at Melvins gig. First show of the 40th anniversary UK tour. The merch was being prepared including two different special variants of Honky. One was the white one (current page) and the other was a sort of light brown almost sandpaper finish. Both surprising to everyone we’re signed by the band.

As for the gig itself, Fuck Authority opened who is a noise musician and the master of the Theremin. He created a very spooky and threatening vibe with the way that he played, horror movie soundtrack-esque. The beginning of what’s about to happen.

After him The Melvins crashed the party full Kiss style with a tone of kick ass energy both slow and fast. They were on absolute top form and never missed a beat. Steve (Bassist) holding it down with insane groove, Buzz (Guitarist/Vocalist) playing catch with feedback like it was his own child and Dale (Drummer) being the big brutal octopus of the drum kit as well as the composer. Felt like everyone in the room was captured in the moment and couldn’t believe what was going on.

For me it was the perfect gig, gave me everything that I was looking for and more. The fact that it was in my city in one of my favourite places too, just made it all the more special!

The Record Itself:
Since I got into The Melvins I always wanted a letterpress edition. They are all always hard to find, so online a lot of time is your only bet. This has not only fulfilled my dreams of having a letterpress edition but it is also enhanced by the fact that I can’t listen to it online or any other way which makes is magical. It’s also signed by the band and has an exclusive OBI Strip and an official sticker. It looks so cool, all of the details and designs have come out great.

As for the sound, you get the record in full with great panning and a lot of clarity. Feels so much more atmospheric compared to a lot of there other albums so it stands out as an oddity because of that. It makes good on the atmosphere though leading to great moments with a lot of patience. Definitely a grower, an album to dig to the deepest depths of The Melvins discography, not one to start with. Only drawback of this pressing is that it comes with a paper sleeve which I don’t like. Get out your Mo-Fi’s for this one!!

My copy of this pressing is not even close to pink. The color of the vinyl is RED RED RED

Anyone know how to tell pink and white apart without opening

I think this sounded pretty damn good, Super clean and didn't come warped or anything. But I would definitely say that the original had a fuller sound. Having the track "Air Breather Deep In the Arms Of Morphius" as one track is cool and all but I personally think that the way the original was done was well thought out and added to the track. Keep a look out for the factory addition that will probably be released on the amprep website in the next few weeks.

Out of all four variants, this one sold out the fastest :P

This edition does have the 25 minutes of silence on the last song. Somebody copy and paste the description of the vinyl version of the album. Fix it.
