Notes

The 7" was commercially released on 27 June 1980, the 12" followed in August 1980.
The 12" was repressed in the UK in 1983 and 1984, and reissued with new versions in 1995.
Until 17 July 1981, ca. 150'000 copies of the 7", and 25.075 of the 12" were pressed in total.

All side A versions were recorded in March 1980 at Strawberry Studios, Stockport;
All side B versions and These Days were recorded in January 1980 at Pennine Sound Studios, Oldham.

The 7" cover comes in 4 sleeve variants:
- Glossy sleeve with squared cut-out and curved glue-flaps;
- Matte sleeve with squared cut-out and straight glue-flaps;
- Semi-glossy sleeve without cut-out and straight glue-flaps;
- Glossy sleeve without cut-out and straight glue-flaps.

The 12" cover photo is a detail of the Ribaudo family tomb in the Staglieno Cemetery in Genova, Italy. The sculpture was made by Onorato Toso.
The 12" comes in 4 pressing variants:
1st pressing (1980), pressed by Lyntone: FAC-23-12-A // FAC-23-12-B.

      I have an unlisted variant that most closely resembles this one. It has double dipped labels and the cover is not laminated. The side A runout is: FAC 23 T A3 GG MVS 3 TOWNHOUSE. The MVS 3 is faint, but definitely visible. The side B runout is: FAC 23 T GG2 S-1 TOWNHOUSE. Again, the S-1 is faint, but visible.

        What a disappointment to listen to! Shouldn't have dreamt... It's an unofficial pressing from Russia! Not worth its price. The audio source is a shame for Joy Division, poor quality in a hurry to sell a transparent wafer to completists or simple ill-advised shoppers. Products like this simply shouldn't exist.
        Too often sounds like a very bad remix of the original tapes, an amateur pushing the knobs of an equalizer, not to mention the fake version of Transmission (mix of the original RCA source with the official Hannett mix, a fake available on the internet) and misleading track listing (sources are fake/inaccurate, scam written white...on grey!).
        It is however the John Peel version that we hear, but which sounds very bad ("radio edit"?), the "original" version is not (demo with a crappy sound), not to mention the false version of Transmission (mix of the original RCA source with the official Hannett mix, a fake available on the internet), Atmosphere all the toms in front but which drowns out Ian's voice, These Days is doing just fine (excellent demo, sound not retouched ), and Arthur Baker certainly didn't tinker with the LWTUP version that sadly concludes this EP.
        If I had known, I wouldn't have spent a kopek (!) on such a scam, no matter how nice the packaging. Far too expensive in both senses of the word, even for a fan of the band like me. Period.

          Couldn’t resist the temptation and ended up getting this unofficial release. I don’t like to buy bootlegs but this edition looked/looks so sexy I went for it. Obviously, I had no expectations regarding the sound quality. It’s not too bad bearing in mind this is a bootleg, I suppose. What really annoyed/annoys me, though, is the fact that Atmosphere seems to be incomplete, missing the intro. Has anyone else noticed this?

            Someone has taken the catalogue # of 406 and made it the time length! This is clearly the 3:25 original version of LWTUA. Fixed.

              Looks like there's been a recent repress as all my local stores have it. Pressed well, looks good but shit mastering! Still going to keep it

                This is the second time I fell on a "Vinyl Lovers" issue.. and again this is definetely not worth the price. As someother said, it sounds clear and silent, howewer the source is somehow poor. Maybe (A3) Love Will Tear Us Apart (Radio Version) and (B1) These Days can be saved. Other tracks, expecially (A1) Love Will Tear Us Apart (Original Version), left me disappointed. A big NO.

                    I grew up with these guys, and as any die-hard fan knows, compared to all their other singles, this is the worst one they ever made - lyrically great, of course, but that melody ! - it sounds like a failed attempt at a pop song.....

Point final.
