The first cut 'n' paste instrumental hip-hop record was made by turntablist pioneer Grandmaster Flash. Based around the catchy bassline from Chic's 1979 disco-pop anthem, "Good Times", "Adventures" brilliantly chucked in Queen's very similar "Another One Bites The Dust" bassline and the funky "Apache" break-beat, a staple of hip hop DJ sets of the time. Hugely influential in shaping the art of turntablism and DJing, as well as future dance music styles such as big beat, which was all about combining different types of music with hip hop turntablism. A work of genius that still sounds fresh after 40 years. ★★★★★ referencing The Adventures Of Grandmaster Flash On The Wheels Of Steel / The Party Mix (12", 33 ⅓ RPM) SH-557
my favourite record of all time, flash uses "apache" looped twice after the first "good times" sample.referencing The Adventures Of Grandmaster Flash On The Wheels Of Steel (12", Single, 33 ⅓ RPM, Limited Edition) 310917
The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel is the single greatest live DJ Mix ever, ever made (in my opinion!). One of the earliest turntablists cuts up Chic's "Good Times", Queen's "Another One Bites The Dust", Blondie's "Rapture" among others on three Technics decks, at lightening speed. Despite the mix being considered old or dated by some, I still think it's breathtaking.
Definatley Reccomended for anyone who loves turntablism and cut-up records, and DJ mixes in general!
