'Back to Black' is the second studio album by English recording artist Amy Winehouse, recorded 2005–2006 and released October 4, 2006 on Island Records.

It incorporates 1960s soul music styles and modern R&B production, with subjective lyrics that concern relationships and reflect on Winehouse's experiences with drinking, sex, and drugs. The album produced several singles, including 'Rehab', 'You Know I'm No Good', 'Back to Black', 'Tears Dry on Their Own', and 'Love Is a Losing Game'.

'Back to Black' received positive reviews from most music critics, earning praise for its classicist soul influences, Salaam Remi and Mark Ronson's production, and Winehouse's songwriting and emotive singing style. At the 50th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony, 'Back to Black' won five awards, tying the record (with Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, Beyoncé Knowles, Norah Jones, and Alison Krauss) for the second-most awards won by a female artist in a single ceremony. The album won Best Pop Vocal Album, while 'Rehab' won Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Song of the Year and Record of the Year with Amy Winehouse winning Best New Artist. The album was also nominated for Album of the Year. To date, 'Back to Black' has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.

I got lucky with mine, as I've actually got a pinwheel effect on one side (shown in photos). Side two doesn't look as good but it's not quite the splodgy mess that I've seen others get. Whilst this doesn't sound horrible, I'm quite disappointed that the Abbey Road half-speed master wasn't used. I thought they would have done, given the 2021 picture disc and recent repress of the BTB 7" uses the AR mastering. However, one thing I appreciated was that the guitar on the title track is slightly more forward in the mix in the left channel on this pressing than it is on others, so I'm pleased about that. The jacket and inner are on the thin side. For the most part, there's only the odd crackle here and there in quiet passages, but hardly noticeable. No clicks, pops, scratches or non-fill on my copy either.

The pinwheel effect on these looks quite miserable. My copy ls pretty much entirely just blue on one side. Not to mention the blue on the mockup is completely different than what we got :/

Nice flat and quiet pressing. Excellent DR and good imaging in general. A couple of the songs (like rehab) are a little disappointing but overall very well done.

Purchased in 2019 from Rough Trade in store on a day out vinyl record shopping,this was to replace a amazon variant that I had previously a few years before(think I gave that one to someone just starting out with a turntable!).
At first it didn`t sound any better than my amazon copy from memory as I was STILL disappointed with the sound quality.
But after a few years of "upgrades and/or tweaks" to my system this record IS FINALLY playing/sounding the way one WOULD expect it too.Yes it does have a "pop/chart" sound signature to it but it is a pop album,the mastering on all tracks is to an level that IF your vinyl front-end is on point to the nth degree this LP will blow you away,musically AND sound quality wise!
Amy`s vocals are all laid down very well indeed clear and precise with each word sung easily understood by you the listener,you can appreciate the accompanying musicians on a level that isn`t immediately obvious on a system that`s noy optimised.
My copy is flat noise free and well centered on the turntable spindle,single sleeve album cover with a nice fully printed inner that has all the lyrics and relevant information.

** I don`t know if all these different stated variants here sound different OR if it is down to ones system set-up,so please bare this in mind when reading **

I'm not a big Amy fan but I picked this up because I was on vacation and dropped by a small record store and saw it for only twenty bucks. It's a great album, the pressing is fine for a standard album. No surface noise, really clean sound. I really enjoy putting this on and letting the entire record play not just the hit song.

My copy sounds great!

Though.....the runouts are stamped with 259015E1/H (side A) and 259015E1/I (side B). I'm assuming it's the same pressing as everything else matches.

I'm not sure why this has been criticised so heavily. Listening to this and comparing it to my 2009 repress, this sounds much better. In fact this is probably the best sound you'll ever get from this album without doing a full blown remix (which could end up being dreadful). The bonus disc is worth the price of admission anyway, let alone the improved sound quality, plus the jacket is on nice quality card, and who doesn't love an obi-strip? This half-speed master is also used on the 2021 picture disc and hopefully the upcoming coloured cornetto vinyl from HMV too. However, you'd have thought that considering this is the third pressing of this particular edition, they'd have fixed the abysmal typo on the inner sleeve. Only a minor gripe, though. If you're after a decent sounding pressing of Back to Black, this is the one.
