Notes
Despite this compilation’s title, the following singles are omitted: Life Is Sweet (1995), Loops Of Fury (1996), Elektrobank (1997), Music:Response (2000), It Began In Afrika (2001), and Come With Us (double A-side with The Test, 2002). Chemical Beats is the album version, not the original version from the Fourteenth Century Sky E.P. (1994). The title track from the My Mercury Mouth E.P (also 1994) is not included either.
The limited edition CD includes a second disc of B-sides, remixes, unreleased tracks, and live recordings. This disc includes Loops Of Fury, Delik (a remix of Life Is Sweet), and a live version of Elektrobank.
Though not listed as such, the version of Galaxy Bounce used on the limited bonus disc is the original, from Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (Music From The Motion Picture) (2001), not the mix later included on Come With Us (2002).
The booklet of the 2CD version states that Piku Playground (Live) was recorded at Brixton Academy in December 1997. It is in fact from the Lowlands Festival performance that was recorded earlier in the same year, and can also be heard on the digital version of Dig Your Own Hole 25th Anniversary Edition as part of the Live At Lowlands Festival bonus concert.
The 12" track "Song To The Siren" seems to have been sourced from vinyl. However, a proper digital version had already been released five years earlier on the compilation Various - JBO: A Perspective 1988-1998, which theoretically could have been used instead.

Fantastic set of the early days and the extras. I managed to pick this up cheaply so I was dead happy for it to arrive near mint 20 years later looking like its not been played. Heavy flat records that are well mastered and not cheaply done like alot of "Greatest hits"referencing Singles 93-03 (4×LP, Compilation, Heavyweight, Box Set, Limited Edition, Numbered) XDUSTLP6
A nice set and a nice compilation to round up phase 1 of their career. Nice artwork and heavy platters too.- The first CD consists of singles from "Exit Planet Dust" to "Come With Us". The last two tracks are "Get Yourself High" and "The Golden Path", which were at the time, new songs from The Chemical Brothers. The bonus CD is great as well, but I find Track 2's "The Duke" sorta weak. But "Not Another Drugstore (Planet Nine Mix)" is quite epic, especially the drum beat. Track 6 is "Galaxy Bounce", which is the song's original version ("Come With Us" has the shorter version of "Galaxy Bounce"). The final track is "Piku Playground (Live)", which is "Playground for a Wedgeless Firm" from "Exit Planet Dust" and "Piku" from "Dig Your Own Hole" mixed together.
I remember listening to this compilation back when it had just came out. While visiting California several months ago, I found it while visiting a music shop. It's nice to having listened to Chemical Brothers' "Singles 93-03" again after nearly 20 years. A - For a longer version of Song To The Siren, check out JBO: A Perspective 1988-1998.

I bought mine on the day of release. My copy has sides C and D twice in it. I never got E and F. Never bothered bringing it back.- Edited 3 years agoThe main interest of the "Singles 93-03" release is this double CD edition for me, unless you're willing to offer it as a give to a related of yours that doesn't mind a piece of British pop culture that actually doesn't sound as pop at all.
A new listener won't be completely estranged to this comp though, since it shows how well Tom & Ed have been able to compile a big variety of well-known guests, such as Noel Gallagher (Oasis), Bernard Sumner (New Order) or Richard Ashcroft (The Verve) to name a few.
I like how the singles are listed chronologically, by their release date. Not many compilation stuff proceed to list it this way.
"Song To The Siren" is here heard in its original version, and is more enjoyable than its edited version on "Exit Planet Dust". The drum and flute instruments mixed with a buzzing police siren slowly turn into a rock-ish mayhem, and introduced the world to the chemical sound reactions the Brothers were capable of.
For several pure electronic heads, both "Get Yourself High" and "The Golden Path" will be likely disappointing. I also don't enjoy these songs as much, especially "The Golden Path" which sounds way more something out of the Flaming Lips's discography rathe than the Brothers's one.
Fortunately, CD n°2 takes us back into a universe of trippy keyboards and unconventional huge beats.
No preliminaries to expect with the menacing introduction of "Not Another Drugstore" that none mainstream media would play (especially today). It's also part of the "Brothers Gonna Work It Out" DJ mix.
"Loops Of Fury" is a monumental choon that defines the big beat sound perfectly, and could have been included in "DIg Your Own Hole" without question. "Morning Lemon" also got this resonating beat pattern, though with less aggressiveness. In fact, every B-side features here is amazing.
The only track which I wasn't as pumped up on is the live version of "Elektrobank". The electronic rock atmosphere is less noticeable here and the keyboards selection aren't that appealing to me. referencing Singles 93-03 (2×CD, Compilation) XDUSTCDX6
Behind the name Chemical Brothers Tom Rowlands and Ed Simmons the deejays. They initially operated under the name Dust Brothers, until in America a producers team with the same name turned out to walk around. In the mid 1990s, surprised the music world renamed to Chemical Brothers duo with plates, on which an energetic mix of dance and rock. Together with Fat Boy Slim Tom and Ed were the standard bearers of a new movement that big beat or "chemical beats" was called. One of the first Chemical Brothers knew a large audience for dance to win, not in there in that instance was interested. It supplied them the mega status in both Europe and America.
