It's not a very punk rock thing to do, but the mix is bad enough that I do hope that they retain the master recordings and let someone that knows how to mix revisit this some years down the line. This is a truly great punk rock recording, and they did avoid a bad commercial producer ruining it by mixing it themselves, but there's a hands down classic punk rock record hidden here in the songs/performances if a skilled mixing engineer with good style were to redo it.

There are a lot of great changes and progressions in here, and the performances are world-class. I honestly bet the band was gutted that this record didnt blow up more than it did because they probably (rightly) felt that they had written and recorded a razor-sharp masterpiece. The weak mix means that it takes a more concerted effort from the listener to notice the sweetness and poetic harmonic balance within the compositions' dissonance, and for many casual listeners, thats a bridge too far. Social play for friends and at bars is mostly out of the question as the sound just wont cut it in a loud room.

The fact that this is on Matador makes it all the more frustrating, as Matador's classic catalog is a who's who of records that find the "sweet spot" between attitude and clarity.

Just curious, did all copies come with a lyric booklet, or just a select few?

My copy is exactly as stated, same barcode and runout, came with the lyric booklet, but no CD. Is this a different release?
