Even though the following statement from Wikipedia entry about Devo using the Fairlight sampler / sequencer for this
recording, it seems logical that they would follow such a progression to reflect their namesake (to devolve)... IMO.
        From Wikipedia:
Devo's 1984 album Shout heavily featured the Fairlight CMI at the expense of analog instruments. Gerald Casale later stated that Shout was the biggest regret of his career, "because the Fairlight [synthesizer] just kind of took over everything on that record. I mean, I loved the songwriting and the ideas, but the Fairlight kind of really determined the sound.

I've always liked "Shout". It's great to see the expression on other diehard Devo fans' faces when I tell them this, because many think it's one of Devo's worst albums. (I think either "Total Devo" and/or "Smooth Noodle Maps" might vie for that place).

Tracks like "Here To Go" and "Jurisdiction Of Love" are great, the title track is super (and the E-Z listening version is even better!), and Devo's take on "Are You Experienced?" remains a true gem.

At the time, the albums was scarcely promoted, only one video clip was made (for "Experienced?", and (at the time) it was Devo's highest budgeted videos; it remains rarely seen, because of reluctance from the Hendrix estate.), and it was generally forgotten by the masses.

Devo's first turn for the worst (Oh No, It's Devo! was more like a crossing point)
We are introduced to a nearly all synth Devo: drum synths, synth horns and almost no guitars. For Devo's earlier fans it turned to be a big disappointment. However there are songs on this album that are worth listening too.

                1. Shout: Actually a great song too bad it's on an album like this.

                2. The Satisfied Mind: Pretty good follow up to the title track.

                3. Don't Rescue Me: Great song great synth line.

                4. The 4th Dimension: kinda goofy at the beginning but it picks up after a while.

                5. C'mon: Lyrics are kinda weak but alright.

                6. Here To Go: Start of Side B and is that exact quality.

                7. Jurisdiction Of Love: This is the first step in a line of horrible songs.

                8. Puppet Boy: WTF? Some of the worst writing ever. Pinocchio should have gone to school.

                9. Please Please: The last decent song, just decent.

                10. Are You Experienced?: Probably their worst cover, just stupid and Hendrix is way better.

Overall a just-okay album. Some great songs on Side A but B just destroys it.

                2.5/5
