Was worried after reading some bad reviews but mine is perfect,l apart from spindle hole in side one being a bit tight initially, the sound is fantastic, v dynamic, well worth buying (this black vinyl version anyway).

I've been wanting this for a while but was worried about picking up a poor pressing as per the comments below. But with the incentive of a £5 off voucher I took the plunge and bought it from the largest multi-national on-line retailer and thankfully it's absolutely fine. The disc one spindle is a little tight but goes on with a firm push and is not off-centre. That website listed the Country of origin as‎ Portugal but it's definitely this Europe-wide release. Just thought knowing that might help someone else decide whether to purchase it from the same source.

More important than all that though... it's lovely album. I was a fan of the classic era Sprouts but knew I was buying something completely different with this and it's everything I was hoping for. Much of it is like the score to a sad film but still rewarding without the images to go with it. Maybe he should make the film himself though.

such a disappointment. somehow both too complicated and too shallow; pretentious and dull. i had been looking for this record since reading a review when hospitalised 20 years ago, and i had thought it would resonate. the best thing is the text of the first piece.

Bit of a warp on disc 1, but sound quality is spot on across the album (March 2019 repress, white. From Rough Trade).

Just got a copy of the new version (with side B label and repressed disc 2) from RT in a sale - sound quality is great on all three sides, though as others have reported the spindle hole in disc 1 was slightly too small and side A was a little off centre. Have solved both those problems with a round file. It is a little warped, though, but no problem for the tracking thankfully. Doesn't have the distortion at the end of the side that others are describing - guess I got lucky. RT seem to be selling them off so now's a good time to get one if you're hesitating!

Mine is noisy, but after a cleaning it's a bit better. Still not dead quiet, with distortion and many pops and clicks from scuffs.. also first record is slightly off-center like others have stated. 90% of all new vinyl I've purchased in the last three years has been scuffed and noisy, it's really a bummer. It's too late to send back for another copy. I'd rather have an SACD at this point.. unfortunate. The Qobuz 24 bit 44.1 sounds good (definitely better than the offensive 128kbps MP3s included with download code).

Unlike the other comments here, my copy luckily did not feature any of the same defects, such as the off-centre pressing. However, the spindle hole on my copy was at first too small and needed to be slightly sanded down, and I also did notice a typo or two on the explanatory notes by Paddy McAloon written on the inner sleeve. The pressing itself is fantastic, with each of the instrumental layers well-separated and it certainly has more clarity than some of the digital files of the album I have heard. Of course, given the other comments it is probably safer to not buy a copy as clearly many do have defects, but clearly there are a few copies floating around which are still very listenable.

To add insult to the bad copies which are discussed in detail below, the download code which comes with this record redeems MP3 files which are only 128kbps. Incredible.

My copy is off-center. Impossible to listen, ring false ... I ruturned my copy.

I have the same issue with off-centre pressing making side one unplayable.
