Edited 2 years agoIn the mid-'80s, my enjoyment of Burton, Metheny, and Abercrombie led me to Ralph Towner, on ECM. He is a wonderfully creative musician and composer with a wealth of interesting recordings.
Here, he teams up with Jan Garbarek on saxes, and Eberhard Weber on bass. There is something very pleasing about Weber's very unique tone and style. And Garbarek has a very bold sound, brassy; a nice contrast with the other instruments.
The pieces are for the most part introspective, dissonant, sometimes somber. Technically, Towner has tremendous facility on the guitar.
This recording is very clean and the recorded guitar tones are beautiful. Sax is always too loud in the mix.
Typical ECM pressing, very cleanly presented. 3.5 stars, recommended.
