I found this record for dollar today. All I can say is wow. What a beautiful piece of art. Such a great balance between structure and experimentation. I prefer this side of David Byrne to most Talking Heads records. I also think this a better than “My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts” which is good but I would listen to this more.referencing Songs From The Broadway Production Of "The Catherine Wheel" (LP, Album, Specialty Pressing) SRK 3645
According to Wikipedia there are CD versions from 1987 and 1990, and I've heard multiple people state the original cassette version had an expanded trackless, yet the current discogs database doesn't support this? By the way, only just stumbled upon this today (preview on youtube) - will be purchasing for sure, it amazing!- I have a copy with the exact runouts as this test pressing, but mine has the regular printed jacket. It has a "LOANED FOR PROMOTION ONLY / SALE IS UNLAWFUL" sticker on the front.

Does anyone know the running time? Allmusic just has the 22 track deluxe version. I wish they were more organized and listed the original running time as well.referencing Songs From The Broadway Production Of "The Catherine Wheel" (LP, Album, Specialty Pressing) SRK 3645
I own multiple copies. I’ll occasionally pick up another just to give away.- Edited 4 years ago

You can appreciate Eno´s fingerprints all over Byrne´s work around this and the previous year. Greatest of collaborations has to be said. referencing Songs From The Broadway Production Of "The Catherine Wheel" (LP, Album, Jacksonville Pressing) SRK 3645
holy smokes this record is brilliant...yet it is monetarily next to worthless. I cannot fathom why...- Edited 6 years ago

The last cutting edge record from the mastermind of the Talking Heads. Everything he (or they for that matter) did afterwards (don't believe the Stop-Making-Sense-hype, which is an object lesson in glossy surfaces and well-lubricated soulless perfection) pales by comparison to the body of work assembled between More Songs about Buildings and Food and this record. Essential, stunning, exciting, like anything you could expect from him/them up to this point. This records achieves a perfect balance between the experimentalism and the collages from My Life in the Bush of Ghosts and the sheen of Speaking in Tongues. But since this latter record is devoid of pensive moments or sonic explorations, it strikes me as insipid. It feels like I was never able to forgive them for going mainstream before I had the chance to watch them live on the height of the powers in 1980 or 1981. The Catherine Wheel is the last glimpse of Byrne on the height of his powers (still in his twenties). referencing Songs From The Broadway Production Of "The Catherine Wheel" (LP, Album, Specialty Pressing) SRK 3645
Shhhh...don't tell anyone this is as good, if not better, than those Talking Heads LP's they are shelling $10 out for- The soundtrack to a masterful collaboration between Twyla Tharp and David Byrne. A piece of episodic dance presenting the disintegration of a nuclear family, with role-plays from The Leader & 7-piece Chorus, with The Mother, The Father, The Brother, The Sister, The Maid, The Pet & The Poet acting out the seventeen scenarios in mime and dance. This enacted within a stark, shadow-lit set of wires, pulleys and wheels against a draped backdrop - with a huge symbolic pineapple, used as a device representative of 'The Bomb'.
Byrne's musical pieces, commissioned by Tharp (who directed the work for BBC TV) are an excellent fit to the rhythm of the work. His lyrical observations are much an extension on his direction with Talking Heads, with 'Headmen' Worrell & Harrison each appearing on clavinet and Belew adding some fine guitar work. Two numbers in collaboration with Eno also began some future projects between the two.
For 'Head' fans, the best two numbers I would suggest as an intro to this album are "My Big Hands (Fall Through The Cracks)" and "Big Blue Plymouth (Eyes Wide Open)". Definitely stuff to dance to, with "both doors open..."
