Notes
Spiral, the first album where Vangelis utilizes his Yamaha CS-80 (which he would later use on the majority of his albums) which he had train-shipped from Japan, through Russia and into the UK ahead of its initial release date. Ballad contains vocals from Vangelis himself, sung through a vocoder. The cover art was also designed by Vangelis.

- Radio disc jockey The Greaseman from DC/101 regularly used the opening minutes of Spiral as background music for his radio bits.

Loud pressing, clear and really breathe, everythings shine. Nice gatefold cover too, and a really good album to.take time.to listen and relaxe.referencing Spiral (LP, Album, Stereo, Gatefold) PL-25116
I just recently found this review from 1999, I wrote originally in german for my website, google helped translate it:
On his sixth (?) album, Vangelis once again delivers the perfect symbiosis of the old and new worlds. This exceptional musician combines synthesizers and orchestral instruments (bells, timpani, ...) like no other. The album begins with an arpeggiator sequence, with modulation of the filter. I guess the first minute of this track got me addicted to electronic music. I can only thank Juergen "Dete" Voigt for that, peace to his ashes. He introduced me to the world of Vangelis and Yello in 1986. On Spiral, 'To The Unknown Man' immediately felt familiar. A piece that, similar to parts of Oxygene and Equinoxe by Jean-Michel Jarre, is simply anchored in everyone's subconscious, because this music has often been used for TV documentaries. (I'm talking about the days of purely state television!) And that's meant in a positive way. I guess this record changed my taste in music forever and definitely belongs in the package of 10 records for the desert island - and I mean record too!! With the CD edition, the complete reverse side of the vinyl edition was dispensed with.
As I went 50 two years ago, I made up a list of 50 beloved albums. Spiral didn't make it, but China & Soil Festivities. So Spiral is also out of the 10 records for the island. But if I could choose one artist/band for the lonely island, it's VANGELIS! May he rest in peace.referencing Spiral (LP, Album, Stereo, Gatefold) PL-25116
Hard to decide which is my favourite Vangelis album: this one or "Albedo 0.39"? "Dervish D" and "To The Unknown Man" are timeless masterpieces. Genius. R.I.P Master, the stars are waiting for you...- Edited 4 years agoVery good sound quality without clicks and pops nice deep bass nice highs and clear beautiful sound. high quality pressing and very quiet vinyl. 180 gram audiophile vinyl Includes the Midem International Instrumental award-winning song "To the Unknown Man"

Just confirming 1978 as release year, take a look at https://www.discogs.com/release/2719935#images/23808450- Not as well known as his earlier RCA/Nemo Studios album (Heaven and Hell, Albedo 0.39) nevertheless this is my favourite of his RCA series. It's not a long album, but all the tracks are listenable and the quality of the German pressing is superb - hardly any surface noise.

A very satisfying production, cheerful tracks with beautiful melodies. "To The Unknown Man" is my favorite track.- Edited 2 years agoSave up for an original RCA CD from the 80's/90's as this sounds BAD. Far too much treble that's been added distorts the synths and drum beats along with added reverb. The later 2016 remasters seemed to be overseen by Vangelis' engineers, rather than himself as is with these remasters, so they sound much better. It'd be nice if these were redone.

This album is a must have! This is probably Vangelis' best album ever. The amazing opener, the easily recognisable Dervish D and the breathless power of To The Unknown Man. This is one of the best and I would recommend it absolutly!
