I really enjoy this record, got it on pre order, there have been murmurings that Third Man were doing digital sources, but the articles I've read about their Verve By Request series to tend to suggest they're AAA. And on my table, this sounds fantastic. I'm an avid James Brown fan and finding originals in NM condition is extremely difficult at a price that doesn't put it out of reach. This album also has one of the best versions of It's a Man's Man's Man's world that I've come across and I've not heard it on any other album, it's just so damn good. This is an all out winner for me, well done Third Man!

A buddy has a first pressing in VG++ condition and we did an A-B. The OG copy was decidedly better than this reissue in every way -- more dynamic, fuller, the highs more natural and far less biting -- but since the chances of finding a clean first press get more slim every day this version will get the job done.

Really cool limited item…I absolutely love these screen printed album covers. Also, DONT BUY THIS FROM A FLIPPER. They are available at the TMR store, and for vault members online. It isn’t worth more than $40.

All I can say is WOW!! This reissue sounds absolutely incredible! The brass section, bass, drums, all sound so detailed. I am so impressed with this RKS mastering. My favorite issue this month for sure! The only complaint is the paper sleeve. The record came very dirty and had a lot of static. For this price, the Third Man Records should be producing their records in poly or rice sleeve, just like BN Classic or Craft Recordings. But that is a minor beef.

Some very interesting results when he jumps back to let the big band sound off....too often his obsessed caterwauling really messes things up. Best: your Cheatin' heart, I Need Your Key, the Man in the glass.* * *

Its a more polished James Brown and his voice seems at a higher pitch, in fact my copy seems more natural when I slow down the speed a couple %. The orchestra adds a smoother touch, the version of it's a man's world is not the one you hear all the time.
