I would have to agree with the arrow down comments on this record. It wasn't good when it was released and after another listen 30 years later, it's just awful. After En-tact, how could Colin put this mess of a release out? Exit Wil Sin, Enter Mr C maybe?

Bought the album back in the days on CD, later found a vinyl issue... listening to this now (being wake a while longer than weekdays) via sony-mdr v700 headphones & a allen & heath mixer at upper loudness... i don't remember it blowing my roof off back then as it does now so i can say amazingly produced. Love it!

God this has aged terribly bad. Compare it to contemporary acts such as The KLF and you'll notice how bad this has aged in comparison.

Not aged well, has it? Only 2 things that aren't super-cringe here. 'Scientas' has something going for it in an ambient/chillout way, while 'Phorever Dub' is a decent summary of the more palatable electronic sounds of the early 90s.

At the time of release in 1992 I couldn't stand the album, due to oversaturation in every media channel then. Revisiting the album now that it turns 30, I must admit that it is rather pleasant. It was like the Leftism of '92. Strip away all the rap vocals to reveal gated funky progressive house.
Re:Evolution is the song I can't gel with even after 30 years. The addition of Terence McKenna (RIP) turns an OK ambient downtempo song into some sort of self-help tape you just want to bin.

Seeing how contentious Mr.C's contribution is, I decided to re-edit the whole LP and remove as many of his vocal contributions as possible by using alternate instrumental sections from the numerous remixes. https://www.mixcloud.com/mrmarkreed/the-shamen-boss-drum-96-less-mrc-mix-album-remix/

Cut a lot hotter than the original. But I guess you expect that from a double 33rpm.

Whereas The Prodigy’s Experience - also released September 1992 - has retained a raw, punk feral energy making you smile, Boss Drum sounds dated & Mr C’s rapping ultimately consign it to the bargain bin 🗑

Better to explore En-tact ( Hear me oh my people, oxygen and progen for example ) or the accumulated mix history on their 12”s - the Possible Worlds EP, Moby’s remixes on Make it Mine - these and more all at criminally low prices at your local Discogs stockist. Out now!

Sorry. Still lot of love for them though lol
