Very odd to see this gets reissued ten years after its original release. It’s difficult to gauge what the attraction was in 2009 but for me this really hasn’t aged well. The material on balance and certainly in a number of individual tracks is too much leaning towards pop for my taste but the real surprise was back then and is today the production quality: From their remixes in the 90s onwards we’ve known these guys to be audiophiles, capable of creating amazing sounds. Therefore I assume that all we hear here is intentional; but listening to my Jazzanova - Of All The Things made me question whether I had pressed a wrong button or messed up my setup somehow: To me this all sounds mushy, with not enough differentiation and generally speaking missing treble. A very strange production decision. If I had to highlight one thing about my copy I’d point to the fact that it comes in a Super Jewel Box - which is not a convincing reason to keep it.

As with all Sonar Kollektiv pressings this is real good. Records in decent paper inner sleeves, not cheap shite like most use!

Jazzanova proved so right in taking the best ingredients of the 60s/70s soul and jazz with a hint of pop at its best.

They master it all. They go far enough, just enough for the tracks to feel confident and fresh, but not too far for them to start sounding cheezy. The classically soulful arrangements, reminiscent of the subtlety of a Marvin Gay production with the smooth, but crispy sound and delicate instrumentation, everything working great right down to the lyrics.

This record feels like that special breezy summer day when you feel in the air that something fantastic is going to happen. A day you remember.

The album is similarly uplifting, soothing and moving. Above all, its effortlessly life-affirming.

My favourite Jazanova record to date.
