Solid Space (2) – Space Museum

Has its moments but I think this is very overrated ….at times it seems very demo sounding which can be fine but here it comes across as amateurish… there’s a few good tracks on here but some notably weak ones too…personally I find Poeme electronique and Oppenheimer analysis a much better listen for obscure uk cold wave synth pop etc …yesh it was rare but I’d search out a few other albums before this one and North American artists like ..rational youth and mystery plane and the others I mentioned ….not the holy grail it’s been made out to be in my opinion but worthy enough of owning the new reissue to complete a collection from a bygone era.

This album has been sitting in my record collection unopened probably for two years until tonight. I can't even remember why I bought it, or if it was for a particular track, so now I have opened it, wet cleaned it, and carefully placed it on the turntable. And what is coming out of the speakers is truly incredible. In fact, I find it hard to believe that this is sourced from a cassette. The depth of sound is impressive, the compositions are varied and lively, and the execution is as creative as possible given what I am sure were very limited resources. Rarely does a gem like this live up to the hype that this rare cassette has engendered, but as I listen to this album in its entirety, I am becoming convinced that it truly is a masterpiece of early 80s indie experimentation. Dark Entries has hit it out of the park with this release, and I have to thank Solid Space for creating this music.

I love this record. Someone stated “The best coldwave record ever.” I tend to agree but also very diverse in the song writing. “Spectrum In Green” is just beautiful and subtly stark. So many different moods on this record that all work together. A true piece of art.

What a wonderful album this is. If you're into the synth pop that was coming out of the UK in the 1980's you will love this. This is not over produced like some of that music was. This is what WLIR or WDRE on Long Island N.Y. should have been playing but didn't. Highly recommend

Continually floored by how great this is. It simultaneously perfectly encapsulates a particular style in time while also sounding like nothing else. Fantastic synth+guitar arrangements and songwriting. Yes I wish there was more but also suspect that might only diminish the perfection herein. Even if I knew of its existence back in 1982 I'd probably still be listening to this album.
