Reviews
- Sounds great! Very quiet and translates the original sound of the album well in my opinion. The record itself is kinda gross looking though, there was a lot of black smears and dots in the wax so it kinda looks like a banana, works with the pink and blue lyrics so ill take it! The write up in the liner notes really helps indirectly explain the caption thats on the bottom of the cover a little bit.
- Side A on my copy was great - nice quiet vinyl, sound quality as good as could possibly be expected given the source material. Unfortunately, side B was quite a bit off-center and sounded like a bowl of Rice Krispies in the background - snap, crackle, pop. Such a shame, because "The Mess Inside" is like my favorite Mountain Goats song. YMMV.
- Loved the album for years - cd & streaming - but good gawd does this vinyl pressing open it up! Totally new way to listen to the music. Big recommend.

If anyone has a spare All Hail West Texas enamel pin they're looking to sell, please drop me a DM!- great pressing, amazing packaging, sounds awesome. only complaint which i won’t take stars away from for is the packaging made it seem like the bonus tracks appear on the record- they seem to be digital exclusives available w included download
- Sounds utterly fantastic. Lo-fi albums on vinyl can sound great when given proper care and attention, and this is proof of that. Lots to read while you're listening as well, which is always a nice plus
- I’ll say what everyone below has already said; only picked this up on the strength of the relative low price and 4 reviews below. Somehow they have made this release sound warmer and more punchy than a record recorded on a Panasonic boombox should ever possibly sound. If you are at all familiar with early Goats and it’s something that’s up your alley BUY ON SIGHT
- Edited 3 years agoI agree with everything said before me about this record. It's lo-fi because it's recorded that way, but the "masters" were utilized beautifully. Really warm sounding. As an added bonus the hiss before and after each track sound especially good. The jacket with write up from John also really add to the experience of the album. The vinyl is nice and thick and stored in a nice poly lined inner sleeve.
- Absolutely blown away with how good this sounds. Big thanks to naptime and ilovemyfender2
I would not have picked this up if no one reviewed it. If you know this album, pick this up, it’s well worth it.
It also has a gatefold full of liner notes by John Darnielle, and the inner sleeve is a poly lined paper inner, so you know care was really put into the release. - I was honestly kind of shocked at how good this sounded. Being a lo-fi production, I thought it would always sound a bit like ass, but when the needle dropped on this thing, it sounded like butter.
