One of my most prized records. Sounds just as good to me now as it did back in 1992 when I bought it from Bridge Records in Walsall (RIP) as a 14yo with dinner money saved from skipping lunch at school. Touch Me I'm Sick is such an anthem.

Great reissue, no problems with the pressing. Nice sound. Nice poster as well

Amazed that the Glitterhouse pressing has Touch Me I'm Sick whereas the Sub Pop original does not! Just bought the silver re-release and realised this ...

Originally released in 1988 this 6-track EP sold in underwhelming numbers, even by Sub Pop standards. Yet it now considered one of the seminal records that helped to create the Seattle Grunge scene. The cover photo taken by Charles Peterson, depicting both front man Mark Arm, and guitarist Steve Turner, perfectly reflects the record. Full of wild over-driven guitar and Arm’s strong vocals this record worked its way into the ‘1001 Albums to Listen to Before You Die’ and Kurt Cobain’s top 50 albums of all-time. The title pays homage to two of the band’s favourite pedals, the Univox Super-Fuzz and the Electro Harmonix Bigmuff. These tow pedals allowed Mudhoney to create their signature dirty, distorted sound. The first track ‘Need’ is full of adolescent frustration and helps to ease the listener into the psychotic noise that this EP is full of and renowned for. The aptly named ‘Mudride’ is the third song that features on the EP and sounds like the band struggling to drag itself through the mud. This song has slow choruses that reflect this idea. Succeeding this song is ‘No One Has’ that sounds like what happens after they pull themselves free. It features a constant driving bass-line supplied by Matt Lukin, a founding member of the Melvins and who also left Mudhoney in 1999. This song is full of energy and great guitar riffs, and sublime vocals from Arm. ‘If I Think’ has slow acoustic verses that give way for the loud screaming choruses. Mudhoney pull this quiet/loud dynamic off very well and with a great solo that sees this song out I feel that these three songs are almost perfectly put together to create just one. ‘In ‘n’ Out of Grace’ begins with a sample from Peter Fonda’s character in the movie the ‘Wild Angels’, the same sample was later used in Primal Scream’s ‘Loaded’. This song allows Arm to give a throat-punishing performance as a drag racer whose fatal crash is characterised by over driven guitars and powerful drum fills. This happens to be my favourite song on the record, and epitomises Mudhoney. This EP was later re-released as ‘Superfuzz Bigmuff Plus Early Singles’ and included extra songs such as ‘Touch Me I’m Sick’ and ‘Sweet Young Thing Ain’t Sweet No More’. This EP peaked at no. 25 on the UK Indie Charts in 2008, 20 years after it’s release. This is a great EP that I will never tire of listening to, it’s an experience that I think all should encounter.

A really nicely pressed, limited silver edition, that is guaranteed to delight and enthrall the Mudhoney completist in you life. Although please, you must be careful with this version, as if you live near a big tree and like to leave your window open on a regular basis, to let a cool breeze waft through, a magpie that lives in the big tree may spy this record, and swoop down to steal it from your very hands (as magpies like shiny silver things, and perhaps even Mudhoney too?) so caution must be advised when you are playing, or looking at this record!!

great pressing for an EP that defined the Seattle sound of the late 80's / early 90's

No problems with this reissue sounds just as good if not better than the original.

Outstanding cultural artifact, this EP hit me like a cattle prod to the spine in 1988, what with Spacemen 3 and My Bloody Valentine, these were truly excellent times.

Great reissue and a great debut from Mudhoney, sound is terrific. Includes the cool poster too. Turn it up!
