Notes

Makoto Matsushita's solo debut studio album was originally released under RVC's Air Records label in 1981. The album was re-released a year later under the Moon Records label, with some slightly re-mixed tracks and an English version of "September Rain."

All currently existing CD versions (as well as the 2019/2020 vinyl reissue) use the 1982 mix, with the exception of the 1981 version of "September Rain" being included as a bonus track on some versions.

The slick and sophisticated sound of early 80s Japan and one of the great city pop albums. You hear elements of west-coast jazz-rock, disco and soul blended in a beautifully cohesive flow. A great mix of more up tempo tracks and and more languid grooves. In some ways I think of artists like Makoto and Tatsuro Yamashita as Japan's answer to Steely Dan but the sardonic wit is replaced with a smile. Dope!

I bought an original copy of this RAL-8506 on AIR records, I must say the sound is astonishing and quite different from what I knew. Apparently since the move to Moon there was an issue in procuring the rights to the original mix which is why all current reissues have the Moon 1982 mix which is different, still good but not what the artist intended.

I was initially unsure about paying high prices for an original, since the remix is so lively and detailed, and I couldn't find any high-quality digital transfers of the original mix. However, I now own a NM original copy which sounds phenomenal in every way. It is more laid back but way deeper in richness. Was worth the price.
