MBV-lovers listen up, yo! A cheap way of getting a hold of the fantastic "Soon" remix by Andrew Weatherall is to buy the overall great "Rave On"-compilation: http://www.discogs.com/Various-Rave-On/master/40068

While my personal knowledge of MBV's body of work was (and in a way remains) extremely low, the Weatherall remix version of "Soon" marked my teenage years with repeated listens and stayed forever. There is just something amazingly hysterical about this particular version - that the original, despite its own charm, cannot match.

From the strange clatter-rotating intro and cowbell-fueled groove, the song develops into a crazy combination of dub and dreamy goth, thanks to the drilling white noise and nasty guitar cut-ups (courtesy Gang Of Four). The "here we go" and "ah-huh" samples might appear a bit too funky (read: over the top) within a My Bloody Valentine context, but without them you can tell, something would be just as missing.

Inbetween, the seducing female vocal bits are sequenced into this adorable skip-and-go repetition, like sirens captured in a glass bottle, in their hazy dreamlike state - the liquid ingredient that threatens to burst but instead complements the ear with its purple lure.

Makes me dare say, I'm an MBV fanatic, due to this single track.

Fantastic Weatherall workout of the MBV classic. It seems incredible that "Soon" could get more propulsive and sinuous, but there you go. Hats off and sabres rattled to Mr. Weatherall.

shartvig, I also own this release. I bought it about a month ago and figured I would find it listed on here and was surprised that I did not. Mine was not sealed, but has barely and wear so it is hard to say when it actually came out

The 'Glider EP' represents one of the key releases of a significant 'cross-over' mo(ve)ment between the guitar-driven indie fraternity and the synth-led house/dance set during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Other artists of this cross-over genre/period include Jesus Jones, The Shamen, Soup Dragons, Stone Roses, etc. However, they all came from different musical directions/traditions to this juncture, with MBV being more 'hardcore' indie and less commercial than some of the others. Being a bit of an indie kid at the time I remember the stir this release caused in the likes of the NME et al.

By far the strongest track - and the most obviously electronic and most danceable - is 'Soon' which has a funky repetitive baseline over which whispery groaning vocals are laid. It would provide the sound basis for an even more funky remix I'm sure.

The remaining 3 tracks lean more to the indie side of things. 'Glider' and 'Don't Ask Why' are really spaced-out trip affairs, whilst 'Off Your Face' is slightly more upbeat.
