Barclay James Harvest – Berlin (A Concert For The People)

Historical concert which Barclay James Harvest gave on Saturday 30 August, 1980 on the steps of the Reichstag in Berlin, a few meters away from the wall which divided East and West Berlin.
The event gathered between 175.000 fans (official police figure) and 250.000 (unofficial estimates), it was one of the largest crowds to attend a concert anywhere.

The show was recorded and filmed with plans for a live album but much of the recording was unusable due to technical issues on the day. About one hour (out of the 2½ hour set played that night) of the film could still be salvaged, but parts of the soundtrack were re-recorded when necessary at Stockport's Stawberry Studios, which delayed the official release of the album by almost two years after the concert. The final result comprised three separate mixes of the concert :
• The UK version of the LP soundtrack (the most common one), with 9 tracks, released in July 1982;
• A slightly more live-sounding mix for a German-only LP with 11 tracks and different track order, released in January 1982, several months prior to the UK official release date.

The first German LP got straight into the German album chart at n°1 on the day of its release an sold more than 250.000 copies.
