Notes
Debut album by the band. In 1989 it was released on CD for the first time and all subsequent digital reissues have featured the following bonus tracks:
Introducing (b-side of Empire State Human single)
The Human League - The Dignity Of Labour Pts.1-4 (from the 4-track 12")
Flexi Disc (a recording taken directly from the bonus flexi-disc included with the above 12")
Being Boiled / Circus Of Death (the original mono versions from the bands' very first single - the ending of "Circus Of Death" is missing the sample from 'Dark Star' though).
The CD versions (with the exception of the 2017 Japanese remaster) feature a version of "The Path Of Least Resistance" with a different beginning + distorted vocals on the second verse.
The U.S 1988 remastered vinyl omits the “knit one pearl one” intro on track 3

The inner sleeve from this album is missing from the majority of copies I see. I'm guessing it was only with the earliest copies and not ones that were in the shops when they became more successful.- Anyone know if the version of The Path Of Least Resistance on this 180 g re-issue is the original (Knit one etc) or the 'remix' on the cd versions?

The 2017 Japan Remasters of the first six Human League albums (or even seven, if you count "Love And Dancing" that is included on the "Dare" reissue) are the ultimate CD versions to get. Apart from the excellent sound, this reissue features the only CD appearance of the original version of "The Path Of Least Resistance" that can be heard on the vinyl versions. Previous CD issues had an alternative version with a very different beginning.- Edited 3 years agoThe version of The Path Of Least Resistance that appears on Cd is a different version from the one on my original vinyl LP. On the original there's a quiet voice saying "knit one purl one" and then the music starts. It doesn't have the solo bass notes, it goes straight into the synths. Also the second verse has a delayed echo of the vocals in the background. Does anybody know if the original version is available anywhere today?
Too much surface noise for it to be enjoyable. Also fairly muddy sound, but a RCM cleaning showed it's true potential - big improvement, but still too much surface noise.

Strangely for a tape one/bilbo cut this is really bad, the levels are so inconsistent with Phil’s vocals way up in the mix, side 2 for some reason runs noticeably slower. It’s the only bilbo cut that I really dislike.
I seriously would recommend the porky/porky prime cut version which squeezes every drop of electronic juice. Side 2 has the smallest amount of dead wax I’ve ever seen as proof- Edited 4 years agoOdd late unofficial release on 747 label, as cat. no. is much higher than Dare (from which 2 tracks are donated here). Different track order for the Reproduction tracks too.
A2, "Path of Least Resistance" is the later CD version, not the original vinyl/cassette mix (different intro and second verse vocals are not heavily treated on this mix), so that dates this much later than one might expect.
Newscasts are removed from intro and outro of "The Word Before Last", and "Zero As A Limit" is faded out before the tempo starts to increase.
