My copy was heavily warped, it also had a thumping sound for the first few minutes on both sides. Returned.referencing Sorcery (LP, Album, Reissue, Stereo) CR00524

Near silent and flat pressing. Mastering sounds very good but I think recording was on the veiled / dark side. Minor complaint on the cover image, clearly a scan and given the tech available seems like it could have been better. Look at some of the Discog OG photos to compare. Musically on the more challenging side than average Jazz Dispensary.- Edited 3 years agoDon’t be fooled, this is no audiophile record. The Kevin Gray remaster only slightly helps the muffled sound of the A side recording. B side, from a different session, is much better. The Stoughton cover is nicely produced and my pressing plays as good as coloured vinyl gets. It’s the (rather fantastic) music you should buy it for -- otherwise it’s a little overpriced in my opinion.
- Edited 3 years agoI have all of the Jazz Dispensary releases from VMP and I have to say, this one is probably my least favorite of the bunch. It's pressed really well (pretty much dead quiet) and has a great sound stage. And it actually sounds really good! It just doesn't blow your mind like it should for the price you gotta pay, in my opinion. It's also way out there in terms of the actual music. It's a fun listen and would be well worth it for 25-35 dollars. If it wasn't for the completionist in me, I probably wouldn't have bought it.
That said, all of the other releases from this series are amazing and personally I think they're probably worth the high price. Or maybe somewhere near it. - That is AAA. It sounds great...not sure why so many people talk bad about this album, because they only have heard a CD version. This is some psych jazz rock vinyl mastered by Kevin Gray and pressed at RTI. Gorgeous! a Masterpiece.
- Edited 3 years agoFor what VPM is getting for these, Im not super impressed. The pressing is not terrible but its lacking imho. Especially at this price ($45 member/$50 non member). Id be curious to hear whether the other Jazz Dispensary re-issues they did are similar in quality. I get the original on vinyl is a pricey item but these should be selling for $30-35 as opposed to $45-50. I do think the thick purple/grey swirl vinyl is appealing.
- Is this remastered? I haven't heard the original vinyl but CD version sounds pretty bad. Wonder if this version would be an upgrade.
- WOW! This is a fantastic start for Friday. Gorgeous vinyl and psychedelic jazz rock is what the soul needs.
