This compilation of tracks recorded by The Wailers from 1964 to 1966 was instrumental in introducing the world, particularly the U.S. audience, not only to the early music of The Wailers, but to Ska music in general.

A year later, CBS Records acquired the rights to the compilation and initially partnered with Calla to re-release it by splitting it into two individual releases -- The Birth Of A Legend (tracks 1-10) and Early Music (tracks 11-20).

are you sure runout on Side 1 (it's sides 1,2,3,4 NOT A,B,C,D btw !) ends in 79 and not 77 ???

if so then LP year would be 1979 surely ?

in any case, the runout etchngs suggest the record is 1977 release and NOT 1976 as listed here.

Isn't it worth mentioning that nearly all of the tunes collected here have overdubs (not to say suffer from overdubs) compared to the original recordings/releases?

I own this album for "Let Him Go" alone. Faster paced, super early Marley. Like I most, I prefer the later stuff, but there's some true gems in here.
