Notes

Released on February 8, 1977. The band spent three weeks in November 1976 recording the album with Andy Johns at A&R Studios. The cover photo was taken by Robert Mapplethorpe.

There are several early US pressing variations, differentiated by the pressing plant codes on the labels and in the runout etchings: Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Santa Maria (CSM), PRC Recording Company, Richmond, IN (PRC), and Specialty Records Corporation (SP).

Some early copies omit the 'for Maverick Productions Ltd.' text from the producer credits on the labels.

I have this pressing and can recommend it. In my experience R/S Alsdorf and Strawberry make quality records. Much like other pressings of this album, the bass is quite anemic so it's handy to have an amp with EQ controls so you can reach for that bass dial. Really good pressing and cut loud. I'd be interested to know how it stacks up against the original US and CB Rhino.

Definitely satisfied. Don’t have any other pressings for comparison, but I can’t imagine a different one would sound much better. This is one of those albums I wish had been recorded with more care.

Sounds amazing, just a little disappointed this version of Marquee Moon is like a minute shorter than the full version and ends in a fade out.

This LP sounds better than it has a right to being that it's a 4 Men With Beards reissue. It appears to be legitimately licensed from Elektra/Rhino, so maybe that's why? However, I have not compared it to Rhino's later releases to see how it matches up with other issues.

This is really exceptional. Flat, quiet, great definition…can’t say enough about how good a pressing this is.

Can’t complain for the price. This really is a solid sounding record with tight bass and a wide soundstage. Maybe not audiophile, but I get a lot of enjoyment out of this pressing and it sounds great to my ears.
