- This is actually the 1966 liberty pressing repackaged and sold in Japan with insert and blue obi. Sounds incredible and a cool way to get an early press of this amazing album
Edited 2 months agoCan someone tell me if the Japanese version with the insert etc. ever came with an obi strip as well? Mine did not have it, but would like to know and also what it would look like (example link of another release with the same obi would be good to know). Thanks.
This 24-bit 192kHz remaster, coming 49 years after its debut, sounds amazing, like it was just recently recorded. The clarity, dynamics, and mix are perfect. It's interesting that the horns are hard-panned to the left or right, but seems fitting for a truly avantgarde ride on the wild side.- Perfect, sounds wonderful. Full sound and full bodied presentation. Some pressings in this collection are iffy but this one top notch! Worth all of the £10 I bought it for.
No Van Gelder in the dead wax but damn it sounds good! Way punchier and more exciting than my BNC.
Edited 5 months agoFirst things first: this is easily up there with KoB, Shape of Jazz and Love Supreme as some of the greatest music ever put to tape. Like those, this also redefined what jazz could be.
The mastering is phenomenal here. Crystalline image, huge soundstage and tons of detail (sax keys and brush strokes. Lucky to live in time with pressings like these.
I could have done with less noise, however. It’s not a dealbreaker by any means, but it shouldn’t be the amount I’m getting. Did a cleaning right out of the package and have spun it four times. It’s cleared up a bit and hopefully will continue.
But honestly don’t let that deter you from this otherwise incredible pressing.

- This is a rather fabulous sounding BN pressing. Not sure who mastered it but they did a fine job. Pressed in Germany and to a high standard.

Just snagged one of these. This is my 4th pressing of Out To Lunch. The others are the 2021 Classic Vinyl Series, the 1977 Japanese pressing, and the 1966 US pressing. I will be doing a shootout on my YouTube channel very soon, but after listening to side one of this 45 rpm pressing... All I can say is wow.
