Berlin – Pleasure Victim

This is a really good sounding press. I was fortunate enough to bring home an excellent copy of this. After giving it a bath... wow. It sounds fanfreakingtastic.

I enjoyed this quite alot, a bit of a shallower Missing Persons type-thing but it's pretty cool nonetheless. If you like awesome sounding new wave then you'll like this. Can't say I'm a fan of the constant moaning on Track 3 (Sex I'm a...), but 'The Metro' and 'Tell Me Why' are very good cuts. Seems to dip into Hi-NRG territory with the arpeggiated bass and synth stabs.

Sound Quality as always is quite good, very much what you'd expect from that time period.

Let's start by addressing the color of the vinyl - it is in no way red as advertised o the website but actually opaque neon pink.

This is cut at 45rpm as opposed to the original 33rpm and I'm not sure that makes it sound better.
Overall this pressing is flat, quiet and sounds fine.
I did an A/B companion with an 80s 33rpm pressing and to be honest the 80s version feels like it has more punch but this repress addresses a little of the sibilance that occurs with Terri Nunn's vocals.

This is definitely appears to be a new cut though as it is 45rpm and there are initials in the dead wax that I can't quite make out - VM something...
This is where a SPARS code would be handy - Terri Nunn apparently said all of the Berlin masters were lost in the Universal fire so if that's the case this would not be cut from the original masters. However, Ruebellan Remasters released CD remasters recently using original tapes(?) so I'm not sure what the true story is.

The album cover and inner sleeve are decent reproductions (the inner is glossy, so not as bad as a paper sleeve).

This would have made a nice package with a second LP of the remixes from the album include - The Metro, Sex, Masquerade all had extended versions and there are some earlier versions of The Metro and Tell MY Why that would be at home on here.

Verdict - if you want a nice clean copy of Pleasure Victim on vinyl then sure, grab it.
It's harder to get a decent copy of the 80s version that hasn't been thrashed at parties and doesn't suffer surface noise and pops.
But I would suggest your best bet is the 2020 CD reissue from Rubellan Remasters which does have all the remixes and sound good: https://www.discogs.com/release/15834453-Berlin-Pleasure-Victim

Has anyone compared these remastered Berlin CDs to the original vinyl pressings?

my original press is on quiex translucent vinyl its dead quiet ,and this is prolly the best press there is of this record

Terri Nunn said on the MTV come back band programe that the master tape was cooked therefore it was impossible for a remastering.
Well, guess she was wrong and the ghost of the past is gonna hunt her once more but at least her fans are happy.

Was track 11 recorded from the vinyl? I hear some (minimized) vinyl pops/clicks (in the first minute).
