What blows my mind is how the Sony database has somehow fucked up, and now What's Going On is credited as "featuring Chuck D", even on the vinyl label here, and on Tidal, Apple Music, etc. That's Chuck D from Public Enemy, who did indeed feature on a version by Dirty Dozen Brass Band released in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2006, but isn't on this version from 20 years prior.

A worthy follow-up to her acclaimed masterpiece, "She's So Unusual", Cyndi Lauper absolutely brings it with this record.

Her lyrics and singing evoke a sense of maturity, evident of her first album's success. Here, a dazzling array of musical stars lend a hand In a subtle but big way.

Not many artists are brave enough to attempt a cover of Marvin Gaye's, "What's Going On", but Cyndi does and with excellent results. Brava!

The song "True Colors" is the centerpiece of this record. This song touches my heart in every way. How do you not hear this and well up with tears? Sheer brilliance. Cyndi, thank you for writing this song.

The mix is great and mastering quite decent. At times I feel her voice is not as far forward as it should be, but those are decisions made by the producer during mixing. If you ever weren't sure how Linn Drums contributed to '80s pop, just listen to every beat on this record. It's practically a Linn demo.

4 stars. Recommended.

Best version of this album. No sibilance, sounds glorious at times. Warm, not loud.

Hopefully a physical super deluxe release is forthcoming with remixes, videos and live HBO concert from Paris? And then her third album really needs to get some attention.

This is the best sounding version of this album for me. I have the original & the MOV versions as well…and they are not bad…. just not as tasty so to speak : )
