Master of Puppets is the third studio album by American heavy metal band Metallica. Originally released on March 3, 1986.
It was the last album with the bassist Cliff Burton, who died in a bus accident in Sweden during the album's promotional tour.

Artwork, designed by Metallica & Peter Mensch and painted by Don Brautigam, depicts a cemetery field of white crosses tethered to strings, manipulated by a pair of hands in a blood-red sky. Instead of releasing a single or video in advance of the album's release, Metallica embarked on a five-month American tour in support of Ozzy Osbourne. The European leg was canceled after Burton's death in September 1986, and the band returned home to audition a new bassist.

Master of Puppets peaked at number 29 on the Billboard 200 and received widespread acclaim from critics, who praised its music and political lyrics.
It was certified six times platinum by the RIAA in 2003 for shipping six million copies in the United States, and was later certified six times platinum by Music Canada and platinum by the BPI.
In 2015, Master of Puppets became the first metal recording to be selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.

It is widely considered to be one of the greatest and most influential thrash metal albums of all time.

      Compared to US Specialty original, this pressing has a visceral, in your face quality that makes it stand out. Drums sound alive and the rhythm guitar have propulsive drive. That said the thing is mixed with too much high frequency in the mix, there is a undeniable harshness. Comparing the second half of the title track, the US copy is ultimately better, smoother with more detailed bass. That said the unique qualities of this pressing make it a must own if you are the kind of cat that wants multiple presentations.

        Don’t know why no one else has commented on the sound of the 1989 masterdisk dmm cuts but I have the spain pressing and it sounds fantastic. The bass is nice and loud but not two much just perfect the sound is well rounded and I couldn’t ask for more. Definitely sounds like it could be a Ludwig cut he never signed all his cuts though.

                      I replaced my less-than-stellar copy with a true NM pressing and I’d rate it 98/100. My pressing loses a few points for muddiness in a few parts, usually in the mixing overload of crescendos. But otherwise, it is crystal clear and reveals the album. I retired my 2016 Chris Bellman pressing for this one and there is no looking back.

                        Never been a fan of Bellman's Metallica cuts. Generally he's excellent at his work, but metal just isn't his thing. I prefer my original Specialty pressing and 2022 Blackbelt Levi pressing over this one.
