De La Soul – Buhloone Mind State

My copy has the following codes etched: BRLP B, BRLP C,BRLP01D2. I can't quite match it up to any of the reissue listings on Discogs.

De La Soul's Tommy Boy catalog reissues are in general of high quality, but Buhloone Mind State is probably the best sounding release of them all. There is really nothing I can reproach.

As a big De La Soul fan it´s hard to name my favourite album of theirs, but this comes pretty close for sure, at least it´s probably the closest to my heart, as it embodies so many great and fluid tunes, beats and lrycism, musically the amazing Prince Paul left his delicious, tasteful stamp and I feel the uselessness to name best tracks, as there´s "Eye Patch", "En Focus" with the great Dres, the lurking instrumental "I Be Blowin'" featuring the original Maceo, I massively enjoy the funny "Ego Trippin' (Part Two)", as I love "3 Days Later", the skits are funny too btw, don´t forget to point out "Area", the conscious "I Am I Be", of course the single "Breakadawn" with its super slick beat and "Stone Age" featuring Biz Markie is just hilarious, kicking the same beat you may know from Wu-Tang´s "Bring Da Ruckus" or several DJ Premier productions. So I mean, I named almost all tracks as highlights now. The dynamics of the three heroes on the mic is priceless and so organic, they don´t try to prove anything, they come across and deliver. And: I'll never forgive the black-hooded one for robbing them and depriving us of more De La flavour, just before their incomparable star began to rise over a new generation. R.I.P. Plug 2.

pretty good remaster. i think the de la soul is dead remaster sounded better though.

it's loud, but it still sounds really good unlike some other remasters of classic hip-hop albums. (ATCQ, Eazy-Duz-It).

i don't have an original to compare it too, but if you want a new copy rather than a pressing from 30 years ago that might not be in the best condition (most of my OG hip-hop pressings are pretty beat up as that's what i was able to get my hands on), i recommend this.

Good pressing but does not include the skits, so avoid this one if that’s what you’re looking for.

The record was covered in white dust coming fresh out of the sleeve. There are random light pops throughout but nothing too severe.

As others have mentioned before me the mastering is somewhat lackluster on this one: the mix is excessively warm to the point of sounding a bit flat and dull.

Still a great album.

Clean clean clean. Mine was lovely right out the sleeve. I never get lucky on quality control addled BS-presses, but here I am with one of my favourite albums of all time. Mastering is excellent, tight and dynamic. If you were let the hell down by the recent Dead press, this should be a nice tonic for you.

Been waiting on this one for a long time. I was expecting to hear, "stick-a-bush, we might blow up but we won't go pop" and obviously this pressing has none of that nor any skits. Imo that's one aspect that made this album so much fun. I'm grateful to have the tunes on wax but to say it's not missing anything or it's a perfect press is a stretch. I also think more bass is needed with this repress.

No skitz but hey this GZ pressing is superb. I think GZ is pressing in Canada? Way better pressing than the CZ bootlegs they were pushing out some years ago. If you want the music and can pass on the skitz then this is the one to own.
