The Selfmadegod LP is 45rpm while the Handshake version is 33rpm. Haven't seen this mentioned anywhere.referencing Longhena (LP, Album) HNDSKLP9
This is going to sound like an Amazon review but my rating is for the actual record itself and not the band. If you know who this is then you already like them or hate them, so why would anybody write a review for the music if you don’t give two craps about it!
The vinyl it’s self is dead quiet, the packaging that the record came in was a couple steps above what everybody else is doing now, there was a poly wind sleeve plus a lyric insert, and I noticed that a lot of bands are not doing any type of inserts with their records anymore and that is one of my pet peeves. If I am going to spend 20+ dollars on a record then there should be some type of insert, either a digital download, the lyrics, some old photos, some flyers, something that entices the fans for buying other records!! Now back to the album itself, like I said between songs it is dead quiet and the run in cut on the wax has no static and once the music picks up get ready to have your speakers blown because this is some insane Grindcore music if you have listened to discordant axis Then you know what kind of tree you’re in for.
The record label that produced this did a very good job and I commend them on very clean album artwork, even though it’s a little boring to me but it fits along with the bands perception, now if I could just find their other LP.referencing Longhena (LP, Album) HNDSKLP9
Amazing album from one of the most hyper sonic space grind bands on earth!referencing Longhena (LP, Album, Limited Edition) SMG 125
Longhena is possibly the most musical grindcore album ever recorded, and definitely the best grindcore album named after the final boss of a video game (and don't think there aren't contenders).
Riffs are played as fast as possible but the pacing and song structure are immaculate, so that a very organic flow emerges at levels micro (within individual songs) and macro (across the course of the entire album).
Lyrical subjects center around the insular tragedy of isolation and horrifically stark awareness of the slow but inexorable loss of one's own agency and volition as life progress ponderously toward a mysteriously dismal conclusion (or lack thereof). The blow is softened (or, depending on your degree of nerdery, sharpened) by virtue of being filtered through a lens of anime and video games. For the very *serious* and *mature* listener, this makes everything quite easy to write off, but for those in the know, the pieces of media being referred to here are very specifically selected to demonstrate a distinctly idiosyncratic apprehension of trauma and fear in the face of overwhelmingly powerful opposition, which is basically par for grindcore, but counterintuitively pulled off with less pretense than usual by Gridlink.
Nevertheless an undercurrent of almost insane optimism permeates these dire utterances thanks to the wildly cool riffs that pair blazingly energetic force with a grim melancholy, impressing upon the listener a sense not so different from that of an anime hero facing the ugly realization that his life is in the hands of military superiors who utterly lack any honorable inclinations, or that of a shoot-em-up pilot desperately dodging an onslaught of hailing bullets with nary a hair's breadth between instant obliteration and a gloriless victory.
The whole vibe I get from the album could be summed up as realizing that you may come through a desperate situation with either your honor or your life intact, and you have only a heartbeat to decide which matters most.
All in all it's a great album and one I've played regularly for years. If for no other reason, listen for the outrageous riffage, and maybe stay for the weirdly relatable introspection.referencing Longhena (28×File, MP3, Album, 320 kbps) none
Just received mine today. I emailed them few days about it, no reply. Annoying.
