The worst album she's ever done. She couldn't sink any lower than Kiss Me Once. Her vocals were overproduced, the songs sounded too rough and American for her taste. No wonder the album couldn't make it to #1 in the UK. Thank god she's left RocNation after this horrid album.

While 'Kiss Me Once' is not nearly as consistent as her last contemporary project 'Aphrodite' it still serves as a solid and (mostly) entertaining album. Now I have to admit that it did take a few listens to grow on me, which is quite unusual for a Kylie album as usually it hooks me straight away. As is often the case, some of the tracks are better than others. While I do actually like 'Into The Blue', I remember being slightly disappointed when hearing it as the premier single from the project. I find it to be quite typical of her sound, whereas the second single, 'I Was Gonna Cancel' (her collaborative effort with Pharrell) is far better and grabs you immediately. Some may beg to differ, of course, as the single drew a mixed response from both critics and fans, but I love it and for me it's one of the major highlights. The instrumental has a lot of repetition which I find makes it an even more mesmerising effect, and there's several great hooks in its favour.

It's true to say that 'Into The Blue' does bear similarities to 'All The Lovers', which many critics picked up on. It's easy to see why it became the first release culled from the project, but the thing is it didn't really bring any surprises. Part of why Kylie's remained so successful in the last few decades is her ability to pull something new out the bag with each and every release. However, you could also argue that Kylie is retaining her classic, signature style here as she stamps her mark all over it. With a lush combination of synthesizers, swirling strings and tinkling keyboards, the lyrics speak of independence, being free and happy. Penned by Kelly Sheehan, Jacob Kasher and Mike Del Rio, the song was greeted with a mostly positive reception from critics, although commercially it wasn't nearly the big hit everyone had anticipated which was a crying shame. In Australia it was her first lead single to ever miss the top forty, crawling to just #46. It did significantly better in the UK where it debuted at its peak position #12 before plummeting down the charts. Although not getting anywhere near the mainstream in America, it still wangled a top forty position on the Billboard Dance Chart.

The thumping, pumping bass on 'Million Miles' is additionally packed with an equally infectious arrangement, making this seem like ideal single fodder; it sounds like a sure-fire hit. Written by Chelcee Grimes, Daniel Davidsen, Peter Wallervik, and Mitch Hansen, 'Million Miles' is the perfect track to follow the album's opener, and as one critic aptly described: "'Million Miles' is this album's 'Get Outta My Way' from Aphrodite". Much the same could be said for the slick and sassy 'Sexy Love', which bares a contagious hook, complete with some rather tongue-in-cheek lyrics: "You look so sexy, so sexy, in my head/You look so sexy, so sexy, in my bed." 'Sexercize' seemed a little contrived when I first heard it, yet it's grown on me since. I found it rather silly and all seemed a little too forced an effort on my first listen, as though Kylie was trying too hard to fit in with her younger contemporaries. But I'm glad to say after a few spins I've grown to really like it. With production courtesy of The Monsters & The Strangerz, 'Sexercize' breezes along a wave of synthesizers, the tone light and airy and Kylie's voice keeps things sweet and what could otherwise be seen as a rather tacky number. Thankfully, Kylie's unique qualities is actually able to make you overlook the simplistic lyrics.

The mood gradually mellows on the R&B-flavoured and dream-like 'Feels So Good'. Written by Tom Aspaul and produced by MNEK-Wayne Wilkins, it's even lighter in tone than 'Sexercize', Kylie's customary sweetness elevating it as a great album track. 'If Only' sure packs a wallop, but somehow it seems a little less effective than some of the other tracks. Not to say it's bad in any way, as it most definitely isn't, but I can't help concluding it's a little bit over-produced but hey ho this is just my own humble opinion. The stomping 'Les Sex' is another major highlight and I think this also would have made the perfect first single. Lyrically, it speaks of, well...errr sex...again. Yet it's such a well-produced, unpretentious piece of dance-pop, the silliness of the lyrics is something you can once again over-look as it's delivered in such a playful and quirky way. Slick and sultry yet there's a lot of energy, the calmer verses making way for a sharp, catchy hook of a chorus.

The title-track seems like an affectionate throw-back to her late 80s era, only she has blossomed since those days and 'Kiss Me Once' holds much more fire and flair. It serves as a welcome inclusion and a nice nod to the past. 'Beautiful', her duet with Enrique Iglesias, is far from being the best track although is certainly not as bad as some critics made it out to be. There actually is good vocal chemistry that shines through between the two even if the lyrics do verge on a hefty overdose of pure schmaltz. Working far better , though, is the final affair of the project, 'Fine', another simple yet irresistible dance-pop confection which Kylie has always had such an uncanny knack for.

All in all, it's a worthwhile album and essential to any Kylie fan. Some may quibble about some of the American-style sounds that flow through the entire project, but personally speaking I don't find this to be a distraction; it's all in the eye of the beholder, as they say. I do hope we get to hear more of her actual singing on her next album, as there's a lot of auto-tuning going on here but this is obviously to fit in with the style of music on offer here and it most certainly makes for a nice, effective touch. Still, that's hardly anything new with a Kylie album but she has already proved that even though she may have a limited vocal range, she can definitely use it to great effect on the right material and that is something Kylie has always had an uncanny knack for - picking the right, winning material, hence her longevity.

Can't grasp why the standard album (11 tracks at 38 minutes) needed to be spread over 2x 33 1/3 rpm records...

Deffo one of her weakest albums in many years. I got the simple version just to complete my collection.

It's interesting to note that the standard version of the Australian edition actually contains 13 tracks on the CD; both bonus tracks as featured on the deluxe edition feature (Mr President and Sleeping With The Enemy). These tracks are not credited on the artwork.

Regrettably, the quality of 'Into The Blue' video recorded on the DVD has been deliberately deteriorated. The aspect ratio of the original footage (4×3) has been forcibly inserted in to the 16×9 frame. That means that instead of full DVD quality (720×526 pixels) one can experience 600×480 pixels only. One should never proceed like that. They should have always keep the original quality and not tamper. I am very disappointed because of such behaviour! Why the editors attempt to fool the customers? For the security of ignorance or because of sloppiness?
