Kevin Sharp critically called this their “Cocteau Twins album”, which is a big overstatement but I do think it’s fair to say that some shoegaze influence bled into their approach to guitar layering during this period. It’s no secret that they’ve acknowledged this more recently and you can find some pictures of the band at the time with Danny wearing a Lush shirt. I think this album is hugely underrated and deserves more of the cult favourites status that F,E,D gets. Also, the album cover in all its cyber keyboard glory really dates it but you can’t help but love it.

I have always had a soft spot for this album, probably the best of their death metal era. Lots of melodic riffs here and a very good production. This pressing is great. Flat, no surface noise, very dynamic, even a bit conservative on the volume side as you really need to crank up the volume, but it in favour of clarity, details and you really rediscover the album this way. Very happy with my purchase.
I should pint out that the quality of the mastering and the pressing really good on all these earache on demand re issues.

Common knowledge that this gets a lot of hate but it's one of my favourite ND albums. I'm a child of the 90's so this new sound and direction suits my tastes.

Some clear inspiration from Fear Factory, Helmet and Godflesh but with a ND twist. Killer songs such as Greed Killing, Ripe for the breaking, My own worst enemy & Take the strain.

In the 90s I started to move away from Metal because of Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax were changing their sound. However I did listen to Slayer, Fear Factory and a lot of Death Metal. Somehow Napalm Death went under my radar, and I really wished I heard some of their mid to late 90s albums. They are brutal and exactly what I would want to hear at the time. I always had Harmony Corruption, Utopia Banished and Fear, Emptiness, Despair and loved them. Not sure why I never listened to this, Inside the Torn Apart. Maybe at that time I had no way of hearing before buying and was tired of being let down by legacy bands in the 90s.
