Notes
Fifth studio album by The Who, recorded April–June 1971, at Stargroves and Olympic Studios, Barnes, and associate-produced by Glyn Johns.
Released July/August 1971, and reached #1 in the U.K. charts, the only time an album by The Who topped the charts in any country. Reissued in 1995 as an expanded edition with bonus tracks, and again in 2003 as a deluxe edition.
The album was developed from an abandoned rock opera project called Lifehouse, conceived by Pete Townshend.
The front cover image was taken by photographer Ethan A. Russell on the way to a gig in Leicester, depicting the band having "urinated" on a concrete monolith in a slag heap, in a scene inspired by Stanley Kubrick's film 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Some versions exist omitting the track "Won't Get Fooled Again," and with different cover art and title (e.g., "Going Mobile," "Baba O'Riley," etc.).

- I already own a couple of versions of this classic but i saw this going ridiculously cheap and it looked great..A real result as it's probably the best sounding quality picture disc I've ever heard..a lovely surprise with virtually no background noise..better than many black vinyl versions

Why is this a reissue? With original A//1, B//2 runouts? This must be wrong.referencing Who's Next (LP, Album) 2408 102
Hi All,
I have disc matrix / runout :
Sida 1 : 2408102 A//1 1 1 10 MG-12888
Side 2 : 2408102 B//2 ▽ 420 11 8 04
Is it this version ?
It seems to have retouched US cat # DL 79182 is barely visible on the top left corner of the front cover.
Kind regards,
Flavien- Edited 12 days agoI bought this shortly after receiving the stand alone "Who's Next" blu ray. As a recent convert to multi channel home audio, I've been snapping up discs that I missed early on, and WN(and "Quadrophenia" as well) was on my most wanted list, since it's been top favorite of mine since buying it as a teen on release day(I've been a fan of the band since the late 60's as a pre teen). Well, suffice to say that the blu ray completely knocked me out. Especially the 5.1 and original mixes. Enough so that I had to jump on this box. Found a decently priced option and now I sit listening to disc 2 of the demo's, reading Pete's notes and once again shaking my head at awe at the pure and simple(well, complex also) genius of this man. The box itself it a treasure trove of delights. I've been strictly vinyl for years, and so haven't been collecting the discs both legal and boot that have some of this stuff already on it, so it's all brand new to me. And I'm simply stunned, song after song. And the book. That book is worth the price of the box for me. Plus the live stuff, the singles, all of it. I own a lot of box sets, and most have been worthy of purchase. But this one is one of those rare one's that will constantly being pulled out to listen to again and again. It's that great.
- The US W1/W2’s sound great, but a UK first is how this should sound, both sides - more presence, clarity - everything.

Comparing this to a US Decca W1-2/W1 pressing, the sound is neck and neck!
To my ears, side 1 was noticeably a bit better on the UK, while side 2 was a close call, but I may give the slight edge to the US.
While I prefer this UK pressing (as the difference in sound seems to favor it), you can’t go wrong with either.- This specific pressing is bit-identical to this Canadian pressing:

Based on copies on-hand, using an Oppo BDP-103 with Gracenote operating (i.e., connected to the internet). - proof that records from Quality Record Pressings are fallible. This is a very poor remaster from the very start: Baba O'Riley sounds terrible (the symbols are smeared and the drums sound lifeless if they can't get the barn burning opener right they didn't get any right....
- I'm really pleased with the set , with the exception of the Steven Wilson remix of the Who's Next album itself. Its probably just me but I felt like some of the power has gone, plus the vocals aren't as upfront. However I'm not too bothered as the rest of the material and the package itself is beautiful.

It’s the year 2025 and I have only now sat down to listen to this album in its entirety. I should have done this a long, long time ago. What a banger.
