One of my favorite Johnny "Hammond" Smith albums, this June 1968 session never really boils over, but simmers steadily throughout. Highlights include "If I Were A Bell", "Song For My Father", "Four Bowls of Soul" and the title track, which is nine minutes of hypnotic groove. This pressing sounds impressive, the organ has a beautifully fat sound, the drums have a robust kick to them, and the soundstage is full-bodied and expansive. My copy plays nice and clean for the most part, but there are a few pops and tics here and there on side one. Side two is largely free of surface noise. Five stars and a happy face.
