- It took the regular 20 years to recover the dance punk sound of groups as different as A Certain Ratio, Pylon, Gang of Four or The Au Pairs, but boy did it came back around 2003, with LCD Soundsystem, !!!, The Rapture and all shouting while banging the drums and putting the bass above the rest of the instruments. I still think it was kind of cosplay but it was great fun.
And A side is imho THE definitive track of this scene, a 9 minute dubby disco epic about dancing when the media and politicians are against it with hooks everywhere, dramatic changes, almost post rocky in its development. I love it and watching !!! at their peak with I cannot remember how many guys on the stage and everyone jumping is, yeah, pretty much one of my better memories. - Edited 20 years agoThe Warp version is the Touch & Go version. The only difference is a Warp barcode sticker over the Touch & Go original barcode. Also the run out on this version still reads TG247 (however the barcode sticker reads WAP163) and contains the photocopied lyric sheet found in the original. Nice cost cutting manoeuvre from the Sheffield boys!
- A very interesting single, actually. Track A is a disco track, the style of it is actually quite similar to the New Order music. And so are the vocals. The track is quite long and it's like a trip - there are so many moods in it. They're just changing from one to another. I really like how the guys arranged it.
Track B is basically made up of beats and vocals. You can't really hear anything else. But it's extremely catchy. I just love the synth that fades in at about 6 minutes. The track was earlier known as "Intensify" and it was released on early !!! singles.
Overall, a really good single. Must buy for everyone who's interested in good disco music. Also, quite unusual to see this kind of music on WARP Records...
