Force Mass Motion – Force Mass Motion EP

The "Force Mass Motion EP (Remix)" by Force Mass Motion, released in 1992, is a landmark in early rave and breakbeat hardcore. The tracks showcase the heavy, fast-paced breaks and dark, hypnotic soundscapes that define the early '90s UK rave scene. The remix versions on this EP add a new level of depth and energy, emphasizing bass-heavy drops and relentless breakbeats. Known for its innovation, this release laid the groundwork for later developments in jungle and drum & bass.

Force Mass Motion was the sound of vaporub saturated, sweat sodden clubs of 1992. It means quite a bit to me to have a remix from Force Mass Motion. I love pretty much everything Mike's done inc Take Me and his Prog flavoured Trance, and his work with Dylan Rhymes, but his Rabbit City tracks have a special place in my heart.

While the Remix EP was far more popular and an essential purchase the original still remains essential listening. Mike made his first EP sampling Colin's show on Kiss FM (mono as so far from the transmitter) in to an Atari ST and out of a home made audio breakout box, hence the 8 BIT sound and super crushed dynamic combined with radical panning of mono sounds as essentially mixed in the Atari. While his later productions benefited from Roland TR808 Drum Machine and a TB303, higher sound quality in general and ultimately a different style post Rabbit City 007, the raw excitement of the time is captured by this record.
Played everywhere at the time and still exiting for the Hardcore Techno lover. Recommended.

My least favorite of the early Rabbit City / Force Mass Motion releases (up through #7...the rest I don't even care about). This one really has that messy, dense 8-bit sound and lacks the hooks of the later FMM records.
