Kid Creole & The Coconuts* – Tropical Gangsters

Beautiful, clean pressure, no crackling, no popping. Nice, saturated sound, instruments are nicely separated. The download is in wav format, which is also a bonus.

Decent sound, fairly compressed but still enjoyable.

Interestingly, the version of "Annie" on this release is the Tropical Gangsters mix, rather than the Wise Guy mix.

The original Tropical Gangsters vinyl featured "Annie" running 6:27, while the Wise Guy vinyl featured a version running 6:15.
For some reason they used the Tropical Gangsters mix on this CD.

Note: the A-5 and B-2 pressings have shorter (presumably single) versions of Annie, and Stool Pigeon respectively. There are hybrid pressings where one side will have the original version of the song and the shorter version of the other side. This can work for either side of the record. A-1 and B-1 have the longer versions; I cannot vouch for any other cuts.

Annie is 6:29 instead of 6:17 which is on other editions.

The reason for the difference appears to be due to a pitch adjustment. The 6:29 version is at 107 bpm. Whereas the 2002 remaster (for example) has Annie at 109.7 bpm.

The catalog number is incorrect in the label line and should be RM2104 NOT RM2014.

The real masterpiece is “I’m Corrupt” here! Amazingly feel-good dance tune.

This french edition contains an edit version of the first track on the A side ("Annie, I'm not your daddy") : so, the duration indicated here (6:26) is wrong.

Coming from a 25 year old, this is such an underrated album from the 80s. August Darnell of Dr Buzzard fame as Kid Creole really knocks it out of the ball park with this album with hits like "I'm a Wonderful Thing Baby", "Stool Pigeon", and of course "Annie I'm Not Your Daddy". Coming off of the album "Fresh Fruit in Foreign Places", some critics and the band members saw this album as a "cop out" at the time due to some conflicts during production and the perceived quality of the songs. Retrospectively, this is easily their best album. If you love 80s dance music with a latin flavour, I highly recommend getting this album. Totally worth it.
