Notable holiday album, first released in 1981, and re-released with various bonus tracks on later reissues in various formats.
An ‘Improved Special 1982 Edition’ was released with significant differences in tracklist. The artwork is nearly identical apart from the front cover text bubble that identifies this version as the ‘Improved Special 1982 Edition’. Specifically, the tracks on this edition are re-ordered and altered in the following ways:
+ ‘Things Fall Apart’ by Cristina has a different mix and vocal and is described as the ‘New Improved Lyrics’ version.
+ ‘It’s A Holiday’ by Material & Nona Hendryx is significantly edited.
+ The 1982 edition removes ‘Christmas Fever’ by Charlélie Couture and ‘No More Christmas Blues’ by Alan Vega from the previous release and replaces them with ‘Christmas Is Coming’ by Three Courgettes and ‘Christmas With Satan’ by James White.
A 2004 13-track reissue 'Ze Xmas Record Reloaded' combines most of the tracks from the 1981 and 1982 edition (using the 1982 versions where there are differences) with three new tracks by Lisi, Miss OD & Gentlemen League, and Lio, Helena Noguerra & Marie France with new artwork.
A 2016 14-song reissue restores the original artwork and title, but replicates the 2004 tracklist with an additional track of 'Christmas Is Coming' by The Three Courgettes (from the 1982 edition).

Any info on a US release of the 1982 "Improved Edition"? I have PB6020/PB-6020 released on ZE/Passport. Both the back cover and the center label say "Printed in the USA". Song listings on the back cover are reversed on the vinyl. Thanks!

Edited 13 years agoYou know, overall I'd say this was great - just less than perfect. True, Ze used the edited version of "It's A Holiday," and they left off the Three Courgettes track - presumably because the group was signed to their distributor, Island, and not Ze proper. And, I couldn't really care less about the newer tracks, which sound like they are on the wrong album.
But, I was thrilled to have this great music on CD, and the liner notes are first rate. And, in 2008, they put out a complete version as MP3 download under the original title with original artwork. It includes all 14 cuts from all editions (though it still uses the short version of "Holiday," which it deceptively labels as "extended").
Oh boy did ZE ever mess up big time with this CD reissue - Why oh why can you tell me that the original 1981/92 ZE Christmas LP featured a mix of Material and Nona Hendry's "It's A Holiday" that was well over 7 mins long, but this CD only has a single edit that's only a little over 3 mins long? You'd think if they were going to the trouble of doing a CD reissue they'd at least keep the Original Full-Length Mix? Sloppy and sad for true collectors.
