How do you distinguish between this version and the special classical pressing if you do not have a cover?
The matrix numbers look the same to me.

Year of release is probably 1996, going by the similar reissues in the same year.

I have something of a mystery here, I have this double LP as above everything the same, but also with it I have two other vinyls with the same Codes/matrix run outs, same track listings but different labels, One label is a lilac/ light purple not deep blue, on both sides, on the other record there is the correct deep blue record label on one side and what looks like the wrong label altogether on the other side, its a Dee Jay Recordings JBL picture label, which is a Drum N Base Label, nothing to do with Big Life. So in a nut shell i have one cover 2 pairs of vinyls both pairs with same track listing and codes, but both pairs with different labels. Can anyone shed any light?

I used to own this album and love it so much I decided to buy it again! I heard that the new crowd is turning their snobbish back to the innovative and creative power of The Orb; well you have to be a real prick to snob music like this. The Orb pioneered the way to modern music makers and they are still highly creative! Their sound is not obsolete and I still hear new stuff that does not have half the class and quality of this album.

Some may prefer the first CD but I particularly prefer the second CD because I think it is more dubby. Don't misread me, Earth (Gaia) is sublime but the dubby feel of Perpetual Dawn and Into the Fourth Dimension are perfect! Outlands' rain and delicate synth notes are a perfect transition to more dub. Star 6 & 7 8 9 is my favorite on this album and A Huge Ever [...] the ultraworld live Mix MK 10 is a pure blissful classic!

I'm disappointed by quality of pressing. The sound is superb (almost magical) but there are a lot of hard and loud crackles here and there which successfully ruin immersion due to the ambient nature of the soundscapes. I've listened to the first two sides and don't want to go any further because of this. The disc surface looks mostly clear apart from some sort of stains near the apple on both sides, and there are ton of small paper pieces from hard carton sleeve literally embossed into the disc surface. For 30 EUR pompous 180 gram reissue I've expected the higher quality but it looks like we have a long way to restore general pressings quality on scale. Anyway, what other options we have wanting this album in our collections? :-)

For a double LP with sides going from 27-30 minutes, you can't really ask for much better. Some clicks here and there, some loud, but usually not repetitive. You gotta turn up your volume more for this since it had to be cut quieter. I don't have the 4xLP, but I do have a needledrop of it, and the tracks are split up in ways I'm not very fond of, this reissue has the same layout as the original double LP.

The 4xLP probably sounds better, but with the way the tracks are split, and it's current going price, this is a very good option.

Don't have the issues you described, however Into The Fourth Dimension > Outlands has three clicks.

hi, can you please provide some info on your copy - i have 2 copies of this and the very end of "pulsating brain" sounds like it's been scratched with sandpaper, same with beginning of "outlands". On both copies. I am offered a free 3rd copy, but just thinking if i can get any better than where i am at the moment. Do you have the same sound on your copy?

I've been searching for a clean copy of this on vinyl for years. It's pretty much the last album I needed to complete my Orb collection. I figured I would have to grab a repress when available as clean original pressings are very rare.

This pressing is outstanding! The vinyl is heavy-weight and the sound is dynamic. It's hard to find a dead silent pressing these days and ambient music such as this reveals any and all surface noise. There is hardly any surface noise in my copy, negligible for the most parts. There are a few clicks here and there. I'm extremely happy with what I got. Living stateside it was impossible to track down the Record Store Day 4 x vinyl before the prices shot up to nearly $120 plus.

I have been looking for an original ABtU without any luck. Opinions made me conclude that the original pressing, although collectable, apparently never sounded that good and was subject to a lot of pressing problems. So I took the plunge and picked up a copy of this half speed 4LP remaster here on Discogs and like others below, I have to say it sounds absolutely immense. The clarity, stereo detail, but above all the extended bass depth brings this remaster right into 21st century. Ok, its sampling technology in its infancy, multitracked on reel to reel, but its soaked in Abbey Road. In the day, I only ever had this on tape and now with a fabulous system I am hearing a presentation and depth so engaging that it's complete rediscovery Great heavyweight vinyl, low surface noise - it's the one to get.

I saw The Orb a few times in their heyday and dub bass was an important part of their landscapes, but sadly 90's digital never did it any favours. This remaster bring me right back to that feeling.

EDIT - Miles Showell has nothing to do with the remasters of 2X12 UFOrb / Adventures 2017 reissues.

The original pressing sounds average/bit quiet, but is one of those 'easily scratched' vinyls - due to the length per side, the scratchy inner sleeves and near 30 year age. It's very difficult to find one one in excellent condition and the remaster sounds better.

Any word on pressing quality? They were pushing up to 30 mins a side on this album, so they had it pressed at a pressing plant fascilitating in long classical records for its original release, wondering if they used the original plates or got a new cut hopefully made by a smart engineer.

FYI - The 4LP version I have also says 'MILES AT ABBEY ROAD' on each record, so I assume it came from the same remaster. I would be very pleased for you if it is, as the 4LP sounds amazing.

Absolutely awesome pressing to my ears how they managed to do it over just 2 slabs of vinyl is beyond me. I have noticed on the runout groove it’s been mastered by MILES AT ABBEY ROAD so that’s probably why it sounds awesome. I don’t have any hesitation in recommending this album worth every penny
