Reviews
- The duo Slow Club, from Sheffield, debuted in 2009 with Yeah So, that was filled with charming, strongly by folk-inspired indie pop. Their third album Complete Surrender (number two Paradise appeared in 2011) is far from. The uncomplicated and cheerful songs from their debut have been replaced by aged and rich arranged songs full of soul influences, with a leading role for the vocals of Rebecca Taylor. Still also takes Charles Watson, the other half of Slow Club, part of the vocals for his account, but it is Taylor who draws all attention in powerful ballads as Not Mine To Love, The Queen's Nose or the uptempo Suffering You, Suffering with winds and strings filled Me. Between such numbers, there are also some on by their sobriety Paraguay And Panama, such as Watson Sung, in which only an acoustic guitar sounds, and Number One, a poignant piano ballad with Watson and Taylor together on lead vocals. Complete Surrender nicely shows how Slow Club is already three albums.
